YouTube Lets Viral Video Producers Share Ad Revenues
CYBERSPACE – If you think you have what it takes to build up a lot of views on YouTube, you might have an opportunity to cash in on those viewers. All you have to do is share a video that goes viral, and you could be getting an alert from YouTube offering to run ads on your page – while you share the profits.“Now, when you upload a video to YouTube that accumulates lots of views, we may invite you to monetize that video and start earning revenue from it,” YouTube wrote. “If your video is eligible for monetization, you will receive an email and see an ‘Enable Revenue Sharing’ message next to your video on the watch page, as well as in other places in your account.”
The profit sharing program isn’t exactly new. According to the NY Times, the program began back in December of 1997. What is new, however, is the expanded scope; YouTube will be expanding the program to include a much larger group.
What determines if a video qualifies? Number of views is key, but also in play is whether the video conforms to YouTube’s Terms of Service.
But before you start looking through your adult content, YouTube does not allow adult submissions. Adult internet model Britney Brooks claimed recently that she was banned from YouTube for posting pictures of herself in a bikini, blowing up balloons.
And for the time being, the program will only be available in the United States; international access to the program will be added in the future.
