Yokohama Girls’ Bar Staff Too Provocative for Business
YOKOHAMA, JAPAN — What could constitute a more appealing welcome than to enter a bar staffed entirely by gorgeous women wearing high-cut shorts, pantyhose, loose fitting blouses and no bras? According to the Yokahama authorities, just about anything. Sankei News reports that Hidetoshi Kawada, the manager of an all-female staffed nightclub in Kanagawa Prefecture, has been arrested for allowing his workers to dress in ways not apparently authorized for the licenses associated with his bar.
At issue is the Law Regulating Adult Entertainment Businesses, which Kawada’s club does not possess, instead billing itself merely as an establishment where people can eat and drink – but can’t see petite Asian breasts.
Opened in October of last year, the club is believed to generate a monthly income between 3.5 and 4.5 million yen. During the 11:00 pm police raid resulting in Kawada’s arrest, eight women and eight men were inside of the club.
So-called “girls’ bars” are a fairly recent entry into the local adult entertainment scene and are seen as a way for “hostess clubs” to sidestep police crackdowns or erotic businesses. Authorities in this case, however, decided that the more provocative clothing made the bar girls more than merely waitresses or bartenders. Instead, the sheer blouses and short shorts constituted evidence of erotic companionship being provided for the club’s male customers by the late teen and early 20-something employees.
The Asahi Shimbun reports that customers are able to meet up with bar girls outside of the club and spend time together in an affiliated hostess club located on the second floor for the building.
