YNOT: Tera, great to have you here with us this week! Can you tell everyone how long you’ve been in the biz, and a little about what you do day after day?
Tera: I have been with Wired Solutions for about two years now and I do various things for the affiliate program. I bring in Webmaster traffic, I am in charge of all the advertising for the site and I do some account management. I also manage all the updates, am in charge of the overall look and feel of the site and I also do sales and anything else I can get my hands into.
I try my best to be easy to reach and active on some of the industry chat boards. I like to pride myself in our customer service for the Webmasters and try to offer everything that we can to make their time more valuable.
YNOT: Wow! Your plate is certainly full. So as an affiliate program, what is your mission towards both surfers and Webmasters?
Tera: Our mission is to offer surfers high quality adult entertainment online… something different and fun. For Webmasters, our mission is to offer an honest program they can trust and use efficiently, and that has everything they need in one convenient program.
YNOT: With the massive amount of affiliate programs out there all vying for the attention of Webmasters, what puts Porn Profit ahead of the pack?
Tera: Well, we do try and offer certain sites that other major competitors don’t offer. We just came out with a bisexual site, http://www.bibilove.com, which is MMF (male, male, female) and we found that a good amount of people were looking for that kind of niche. We plan to launch a midgets site, http://www.fuckingdwarf.com and also http://www.freakclub.com. We are also providing Webmasters with a free exclusive feed to use. This feed was a VHS video (The Wack Pack Gangbang Video), and we have digitized it and are offering it to Webmasters. This is something that can’t be found anywhere else as we have exclusive rights to it. You can sign up for it at http://www.pornprofit.com. Of course, we also offer all the main niches and general hardcore sites, but as you can see, we have some very unique and exciting things coming up in the near future.
YNOT: Affiliate programs are being scrutinized more and more lately, getting more extreme in content, and are being held under a microscope more often than ever. How do you protect yourself legally?
YNOT: How did you end up in this crazy industry?
Tera: Well, I am a girl who is always looking for new opportunities and experiences! I like to add things to my “I have done this list.” I love to experience travel and so many things in general. The marketing and the logistics of this business are very interesting to me. At first I just needed a job, but it quickly became something I love to do.
YNOT: What would you be doing if you weren’t in the adult Internet?
Tera: I would like to work in the advertising or marketing department of a mainstream magazine, like Maxim Magazine.
YNOT: Ahhhh… good answer. YNOTBob and I read Maxim religiously.
So, what type of work were you actually doing before you started in the biz?
Tera: I did everything under the sun. I dealt blackjack in a casino in Lake Tahoe. But, before I left home I worked for Geoworks, the software company, as well as a private investigating service. That was interesting! I used to have to call banks and pretend I was a busy, professional woman and try to get their balance on accounts and other (so they say) personal information. I have always loved to work in different areas, trying to figure out what I wanted to do.
YNOT: Sounds cool! Well, given that you seem very adaptable, was your transition into the adult arena pretty smooth?
Tera: Well, I started at Xpics and Rich J (who works here as well) brought me into the industry. I will never forget my interview. They needed somebody who could type fast and wasn’t afraid to say dirty words, I guess. I had to type in keywords for sites, and make gateway pages. In one part of my interview, I was asked to create a line of keywords and start typing them out. My potential boss was hovering over my shoulder and I couldn’t stop laughing. But at least I made it in! I guess I knew all the right words.
YNOT: That’s funny. So what could have been the hardest part turned out to be pretty entertaining for you! What happened once you got in?
Tera: I quickly became friends with my coworkers and I still talk to them to this day. Once I came to Porn Profit, I realized how much there was to learn and how much I wanted to grow into this industry. It was hard, and it is still hard, as there is something new every day. I thank the people that taught me everything I know. If people were to ask me to teach them the ins and outs of this business, I wouldn’t know where to start!
YNOT: I feel the same way sometimes. In a male dominated industry, most female webmasters (and content for that matter) really have to develop a thick skin. Any embarrassing or funny moments you care to share?
Tera: Well, to pick one out is hard. It seems that something embarrassing always happens to me. When I went to my first convention, I was trying to meet people, and I didn’t really know that much. So I would just talk to anybody, and talk their ear off, until they asked the dreaded questions, “What’s content?” or “What’s traffic?” And you realize you’re not even inside the convention and you just talked porn to some 70-year-old grandpa. After that, I soon learned that what I really needed to do was listen and learn.
YNOT: Good advice indeed. Say… I’ve seen you on the boards often, and you seem to be a very pleasant and tolerant person. Is there anything that irritates you, or at least some aspect of our biz that you would like to see improved?
Tera: I would like to see more follow through. People set up deals, talk huge about their product, and then when it comes time to make the deal and actually follow through, it far too often was just a bunch of hot air. There is so much of a “player image” in this industry. I can understand talking up a product to try to sell it, but not so much that there is no outcome.
YNOT: I hear ya there! Don’t even get me started on the “player” image! Anyway, any trends in the industry in general that you have been noticing lately, or perhaps improvements being made?
Tera: I think over time this industry will fix itself. It is already happening. If you take the time to look around at the most recent conventions and gatherings you can see it. People in this industry have drive, they want it to last and it will. A lot of new people are coming into the industry as well, and I think over time things will fall into place.
YNOT: Where do you see yourself in the long run? Any predictions?
Tera: Well, in the long run I would like to be more prominent in the industry. I would like to be a bigger part of it, and come out with some innovative ideas. I still have a lot to learn though, but I am a patient person, so I will keep pushing ahead like always and continue to absorb the valuable lessons I am taught simply from working hard in this industry.
My outlook on the adult industry at this point in time seems that some big changes are going to happen sooner then later. The traffic seems to be getting smarter, the retention rates aren’t as long as they used to be and I feel a lot of people will get pushed out. The companies that prepare for this, and diversify will have a lot to gain and are the ones that will last through the changes. It is an exciting time. I also feel this industry is becoming more businesslike, and more mainstream. People carry themselves differently then two years ago, and different kinds of people are arriving in this industry. I like it!
YNOT: Before we go here Tera, is there anything you’d like to plug?
Tera: I just want people to give Porn Profit a try! We are constantly working to upgrade the program and come up with new things to offer. In this industry nothing can stay stagnant, so it’s always a work in progress. I always look forward to brainstorming and finding new ways to offer Webmasters what they need.
YNOT: Well there you have it folks! You heard the young lady… check out Porn Profit! Thanks for your time with us this week Tera and best of luck to you guys.
