yNOTNews is proud to have Paul M. Games, President of Adult Web Games, based out of Philadelphia, PA as this week’s In The Spotlight guest. If interactive adult games are what you need, then Paul is the man you should be speaking to. You should get to know him anyway… he’s a great guy, and one laid-back dude.
YNOT: Paul! Great to have you as our guest this week. I had the pleasure of meeting you quite a few shows ago. Every party I showed up at, you were there!
So tell us about Adult Web Games… you are the president over there? How long have you been around?
Paul: Hi Jay! I am the president of After Hours Media which runs our content sites Adult Web Games, Gay Web Games, and Free Game Content. In late 1999 we launched our content company and have never stopped growing since then. More or less I am responsible for overseeing our content sites.
YNOT: What is your company’s primary focus and who are your targeted clients?
Paul: Our primary focus is in online interactive adult games content. With that style of content we provide a very addictive and excellent interactive experience for the end user. Our primary client is the paysite or premium AVS owner. We have a wide range of clients from the smallest of newbie paysite owners to a “who’s who” list of the top industry leaders. There is no site too small or too large that we can’t help.
YNOT: Very nice. So, basically you can serve a majority of the online adult community.
How do you set yourself apart from other interactive gaming companies?
Paul: Two aspects that make us unique compared to our current competitors are our products and services.
We have the largest and highest quality selection of online adult game content on the Net. We feature over 50 straight games, 40+ hentai games, 40+ gay games and five different multiplayer games. We have a new animation novelty series and new multiplayer games that we are officially launching for the January Internext show. We are also able to create custom game content to meet our client’s needs. From simple logo placement and image swapping for niche sites to the creation of totally new custom games. We can do just about everything someone asks. Mainly, our game content is leased as plug-ins, but we also do a lot of custom work for a one-time charge.
YNOT: It just dawned on me… a lot of guys in the biz like to play video games as a pastime (myself included.) What’s that like for you developing games all of the time?
Paul: Well…the tough part about being with a game content company is that we play… I mean beta test… games all day long, every day. In my free time I love cars and playing around with photography (not THAT kind of photography!).
YNOT: How long have you been involved with the Internet?
Paul: I got into the Internet and Webmastering in 1994. I made the mistake of waiting until 1999 to look into the adult side of this world.
YNOT: How did you end up in the adult Internet?
Paul: Probably a similar story to most. A few years ago I was bored and sitting at home, browsing the usual porn on the Internet, when I started to think to myself, “Hey… I could make money doing this stuff too!” One of the first resource sites I found at the time was YNOTMasters… My life hasn’t been the same since. Originally as a newbie Webmaster, YNOT helped me in getting to know more about the business. As time progressed and after we launched our game content sites, it also helped us in positioning our company reputation and credibility. That was as a direct result of several articles I wrote for YNOTNews a couple of years ago. These days I look forward to seeing the latest issue of YNOTNews in my mailbox.
YNOT: Music to our ears man!!
If there was no adult Internet what would you be doing?
Paul: “Would you like fries with that, sir?”
YNOT: What do your friends and family think about Paul being in the porn business?
Paul: Most of my friends know what I do and they think it is pretty cool. The guys are always asking me for a password to a paysite, but I won’t give anything out to them.
YNOT: That is a pretty common occurrence!
Paul: I think they are all jealous of seeing the pictures from the conventions! I still haven’t convinced any of them to come out with me though. My wife knows about the business and she isn’t complaining because we have been very successful with our business model with the online world.
YNOT: Yeah… it’s funny the looks you get from people when you invite them to an event. Some of them can clam up real quick!
On a more serious note here, in your opinion what do you think are some of the biggest problems in our industry right now?
Paul: These are great questions. I think one of the biggest issues is too much freely distributed porn on the Net. We are all the victims of what has also attracted us to this business to begin with. Anyone with a computer, Internet connection and the ability to grab images can put up a website within a matter of hours these days. There is no real expense or learning curve that restricts many from thinking of an idea right now and implementing it today. Again, that is the great thing about the Net to begin with, but it is also why so many porn surfers have also turned into collectors of porn and are posting it up for their friends and others to see for free. On different levels the thought of “free porn” has become a major topic. It will be interesting to see if the government will end up stepping in and doing something about it. It is a shame we can’t police ourselves better.
YNOT: Yup. The actions of a few can certainly affect the livelihood of many.
Any ideas on how to make our industry a better place?
YNOT: Well guess what… here is a web site you can check out about that! Talk to attorney Larry Walters over there to get more involved in this!
Paul: Thanks. I think that is something that would improve the industry. It would be a great place for members to settle issues as well.
YNOT: Got any predictions for 2003?
Paul: We are constantly taking things to new levels with our games content. Last year we only had straight games and now we cover many niches. Multiplayer games are the future of the Internet, so we are investing a lot of time, money, and energy into these projects. You never know what tomorrow brings. We are the leading game content company right now, but that could all change. My focus is making sure that we provide an honest product and service at a level higher than what my clients expect. We are always changing, so we don’t become stale ourselves. Good or bad, I think we will be facing more and more changes as time progresses as an industry. The new credit card changes this past year made a lot of people change their business plans. I am sure we will see more of this in the future. If I honestly knew what the industry would be like one or two years from now and what would be the next big hit… well… I would be selling tapes on TV right now.
YNOT: And as usual, please throw some advice our way for all of the newbies that will be reading this interview!
Paul: Do your homework. Do the research. Treat this business venture like any other business you would want to start and become successful at long term. There is a high attrition rate in this business. Newbies are often running out and throwing a lot of time and money into this business and they never take a step back and really think through everything. Also, when you finally figure out what direction in this business you want to go into, stick with it, become the expert and know all of the in’s and out’s. It amazes me how many people out there run a ton of different style sites, and because of that none of them do well at all. Focus your time and energy into a particular niche and then make it your own. Don’t become an “also ran.” You need to take your site and separate it from the crowd, otherwise you will just blend in with the noise. I have a background in marketing, branding, and positioning, so I could go into very much detail about each of these quick thoughts in this section, but who wants to hear that from a games guy LOL!
YNOT: Any products or upcoming launches you would like to plug so everyone can take that thought to Internext with them?
Paul: We just launched our multiplayer games suite a couple of weeks ago. We are already in the works of adding more game choices to that plug-in. We will be launching the new animation novelty games at the Internext convention as well. We have two larger and more exciting projects we are working on right now, but unfortunately I cannot disclose anything at this point. I am excited about it because we will be raising the bar again on the adult game content industry, so stay tuned!
Also, if you mention YNOTNews on your demo, I will hook you up with some FREE games with no strings attached!
YNOT: Nice! Hell, give yourself another plug here… after all, you did create the YNOTBob game!
Paul: As a side hobby I have a site that I would love everyone to post some of their party, convention and every day pictures at. It is Webmaster Photos. We currently have over 700 different photos from shows over the last couple of years. It is a definite bookmark for after any Webmaster party or show.
Lastly, I would like to thank all of my current and past clients. Without them and the belief in our company, our content, and the direction we are going, we would not exist without you!
YNOT: Thanks for joining us this week Paul and see you in Vegas! Everyone go check out Adult Web Games, Gay Web Games and Free Game Content and don’t forget to mention that you read about Paul’s interview in YNOTNews!
