It should be no wonder why he fits in so well with the folks at top-notch pioneering content producer Sweet Entertainment. JMan is a guy I’m very happy to call a friend, as well as a guy whose headlocks I’m happy to say I’ve avoided thus far! This week we go in depth with JMan and find that he’s a got a few tricks up his sleeve! Check out this unprecedented interview…
LAJ: JMan… it was great hanging with you in Montreal at the Cybernet Expo last month! For everyone who may not be familiar with Sweet Entertainment, can you give us a rundown of what you guys do and tell us about the company’s long history on the ‘Net?
JMan: Hey LAJ, always good to see you and Bob around at the shows. We had a great time in Montreal with everyone we met there and partied with.
Sweet Entertainment Group (SEG) is an adult production company that has been in business since 1997. We have both an affiliate program where we pay rev share and joins at http://www.sweetmoney.com, and also our exclusive content, which will help any members’ area with retention, which can be found and leased at http://www.sweeterotica.com. As you can see we have partners such as Max Hardcore trusting the Sweet family with his products as well!
Most of the Webmasters out there have known us for the ORIGINALITY of the content Steve Sweet (founder and president) has been doing for years – building sites such as Sweet Loads, Dirty Old Man, Butt Cam, Pee Lover and one of his latest accomplishments, FistingLessons.com. Steve is the one who put “reality” into adult Internet content way back when. Can you imagine how many Webmasters out there have made some decent coin with him and his ideas? For the company anniversary this year, Steve will be taking the whole company out for a complete weekend of fishing at the renowned resort The Painters Lodge at Campbell River.
LAJ: Very nice! That should be a great time. Okay, before we get further into things, I would like you to touch on the raids that your company encountered in the past. I know it’s a touchy subject, but I’m hoping you can clear the air out there for any Webmasters who may have misinformation.
JMan: We encountered raids twice in 2002 by the local Vancouver Police. You can check out some details here. For everyone’s information, Steve has decided to put his head on the chopping block for all of the content producers and Webmasters out there by taking on the law and going all the way with this. Let’s put it this way… the man is suing the City of Vancouver to fight for what he believes in. Do you know of anyone with brass balls like that? Many people that heard about this bust were thinking SEG was gone…
LAJ: Yeah… things seemed kind of touch and go there for a while.
JMan: Well, I can tell you that we are ALIVE and well more then ever and coming up with PLENTY of good surprises for our industry and new affiliates to be able to make more money with our original and award winning content!
LAJ: What is the secret behind the Sweet success and the longevity of the company?
JMan: Our original, notorious, and borderline content that makes everybody go HUH??? When people first see it they just HAVE to come back for more. And our Sweet family, including Steve Sweet, Chris, Jamie, Max, Albert, Thor, Florin, Serge, Kathi, Vlad, Rob, Hank, Corey, Jake, Lesley, Cecil, Dirty Old Man, Iceman, and our in house legal departement with Kim… we are a bunch of experienced and CRAZY people who have all been working in this industry for quite some time now.
Come party with me in Florida at Internext if anyone dares and they’ll understand the other reasons for our longevity…
LAJ: Where did you work before in the industry?
JMan: Previously I worked as an associate of Meat and Aga from Netpond. I’m actually still doing lots of work together with them. I also lived in the Caribbean working for Fabian – I learned a lot from him. Originally I started in 1998 with a content production company called Kebek (no longer exists).
LAJ: How about before that?
JMan: Before that I was running a chain of computer retail stores in Montreal.
LAJ: What kind of Internet background do you have? What are your specialties?
JMan: My specialties include international marketing, general sales and marketing and entertainment during conventions. At the moment I am International Marketing Manager and also Content Manager here and I am about to launch my OWN reality site pretty soon!
LAJ: Who has been the most helpful in getting you to where you are today?
JMan: JB, JoeE, SweetT, Steve Sweet, Meat, Aga, Fabian, Tanker and Steve at Lightspeed, Evil Chris, Rick Latona and the CJ crew. Oh, and I must not forget the babes… Whitney, Aerin, Becky, Marie, Ellisa, Zoe, Twisted Angel, Meni and Stevecore hahahaha… those are some of the names. The list is way too long but it wouldn’t be complete without my new evil twin, lost brother, partner and party mate: GrimShawn from Max Hardcore.
LAJ: Some great people you have listed there, and GrimShawn is without doubt the man!
Can you share any funny or memorable moments at any of the shows?
JMan: Seeing Paul Dinin from Consumption Junction throwing himself in the canal TWICE in Amsterdam this year was pretty fucking funny.
LAJ: Haha… as it would be! Any thing else you would like to add here JMan?
JMan: Yes, I would like to announce a challenge to YNOT Bob and you to stop being afraid of the fucking snow and come snowboarding with me and Steve in Whistler (running around the room making chicken noise)…
LAJ: Hey, wait a minute… since when did you pull me into this? Wasn’t that supposed to be just about Bob? Alright, let’s talk in Florida.
JMan: Okay, before we go LAJ, I want to say that you have been doing a fantastic job giving lucky people like me the honor of being interviewed by you and brought into the Spotlight. How about I turn the tables on you and ask you a couple of questions?
LAJ: Hahaha… what a strange turn of events! Okay JMan, go for it!
JMan: How long have you been at YNOT and what do you do there?
LAJ: I’ve been with YNOTMASTERS for over three years now. I’m the YNOT NEWS Editor-in-Chief (I produce each online issue of YNOT NEWS as well as our emailed newsletter). I’m also the YNOTMASTERS Communications Director, where I’m involved in marketing, public relations and management of most of the sections of the site including the Articles and Webmaster Directorysm sections, the Insider news links and I am also a Chat Board administrator. Additionally, I offer creative input for the design and functionality of our site, and do a lot of testing, writing and proofreading. I’m also actively involved with our tradeshow appearances, helping build and take down our booth, organizing seminars, and actively looking for press opportunities. Bob and I do a weekly radio show called “The YNOT Bob Humpday Lunch Show” every Wednesday at noon (PT) at TAWRadio.com.
JMan: Before YNOT, what the hell did you do brother?
LAJ: I was a struggling actor / waiter up until the end of 1997… most of my acting work was supporting characters primarily in television, commercials, independent film and theater. When it was high time to get a career and let “the dream” slip away, I took a job as a publicist for several mainstream actors and television shows before I made the jump into the adult Internet in May 2000.
JMan: I know you can party hard bro… I have seen you in action and joined you for drinks in the past. Please tell me what is either your funniest moment or most embarrassing moment you have had since you have been with YNOT.
LAJ: Haha… I KNEW you’d ask this. Damn… you truly are turning the tables on me! I’ll go for the funniest moments here… One trip to FUBAR will show you my ability to have fun and be caught in some funny moments! I would also have to say that YNOT Bob and I have pulled some major pranks on our radio show ranging from Webmasters convinced they were going to be arrested to various family members fearing for the livelihood of their significant other in the industry. People from Lightspeed and AEBN have been the most instrumental in helping us execute these pranks.
JMan: Have you ever banned a Webmaster for life on YNOT?
LAJ: Good question! No I haven’t. I have definitely banned people indefinitely for reasons including posting child porn links, repeat spamming and repeat rule breakers. I always try to give as many warnings as my patience will allow, but if pushed, I have no problems suspending Webmasters. I doubt I will ever ban anyone for life, and I don’t know of anyone who currently fits that bill. Back in the day before I came onboard it’s certainly possible that someone was “banned for life” but I am always willing to listen to every situation and work something out as long as the other person is rational.
JMan: Since you go to almost all of the shows and provide great coverage, what would you say within the last year was best for you… and I ain’t talking best business opportunities… I mean best overall party / networking / hanging with friends?
LAJ: I would have to say that when it comes to the major and midsize shows… both of the Montreal Cybernet Expos and the Hollywood, Florida Internext from last August were my personal favorites.
JMan: What’s coming up in the Fall for YNOT? Any new shit coming up – new partners or ventures?
LAJ: Yes… we are adding more sections to YNOTMASTERS, improved features to YNOT NEWS, and as well the addition of other sites. Thanks for asking.
JMan: Alright LAJ, thanks for answering my questions, I’ll see you in Florida next month!
LAJ: This has been a pleasure JMan! Very interesting turn of events here. Best wishes to you and everyone over at SEG and you can count on us creating more “funny” moments at the next show! Keep up the great work over there, and let us know when Steve gets the key to the city!
A little rest and relaxation, SWEET style!
