VAN NUYS, CA — Like so many others on the planet, Yappo has questions about the meaning of a lot of things, chief among them its own name. Having grown weary of making up answers or simply saying, “I dunno,” the company’s representatives have decided to turn the search for the meaning of Yappo into a contest with plenty of groovy prizes. Yappo.com is known for its “Adult Movies on Your Terms,” but what the word Yappo itself means is unknown, much like why men have nipples or why European girls shave their pussies but not their armpits. Now, customers who think they have a grip on the whole Yappo thing can contribute their insights and maybe even take home a flat screen monitor or iPod!

“We’re sick of people asking us the meaning of our name, so we thought we’d let our customers come up with the answer,” Liam Colins, operations manager for Yappo.com explains in a company press release on the subject. “We’ve spent many hours discussing the name and we always enjoy having people share their guesses at shows and other events,” he continues. “This is a fun and entertaining way to poke fun at ourselves while getting some additional exposure for the brand.”

Wise-guys and gals aged 18 or older who think they know the etymology of Yappo are encouraged to shoot a 30-second to three-minute video on the subject and upload it to YouTube, as well as email it to contest@yappo.com.

All “Meaning of Yappo” films must show the Yappo.com name at least twice for a combined 10-seconds and must include the name spoken at least once. Films must be softcore with no profanity or nudity. Filmmakers using a derogatory approach will find their submissions disqualified. Submissions can also be sent to YouTube.com/group/yappocontest.

Those who turn in their revelations via video between now and 11:59pm December 31st, 2007 will have a chance to win a 3007WFP-HC 30” wide screen, flat panel LCD monitor or an assortment of iPods. The video earning the most views between now and January 15th, 2008 will be declared the ultimate winner. All videos will become the property of Yappo.com, which will not accept liability for anyone infringing other company’s copyrights.
