Yahoo Slapped With $3 Million Lawsuit Over Unauthorized Nude Pictures
PORTLAND, OREGON – Search engine giant, Yahoo Inc. is being sued for $3 million by a woman whose nude pictures ended up online without her authorization. Cecilia Barnes, 48, claims the pictures were posted by her ex-boyfriend. She filed a lawsuit on Tuesday in Multnomah County after Yahoo did nothing to remove them.Barnes asserts that an ex-boyfriend began posting personal profiles of her with photos in December. The profiles also included her email address and phone number at work.
The perpetrator of the fraud apparently engaged in online chats in Yahoo chat rooms, assuming Barnes’ identity and promoting the profiles. “Due to these profiles and online chats, unknown men would arrive without warning at plaintiff’s work expecting to engage in sexual relations with her,” the lawsuit claims.
The woman says she contacted Yahoo in January stating that she hadn’t created the profiles and wanted them removed, but further attempts to, “get Yahoo to remove them in February and March did not get a response,” the lawsuit claims.
Yahoo has put forth no comment as the company policy does not allow for comment on pending litigation.
