Women Vote ‘Yea’ on Circumcision
HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. – More than 54 percent of women who responded to a recent online poll said they prefer a circumcised penis. Only 3 percent reported preferring a man’s equipment remain au naturel.
The poll, conducted by adult products retailer Adam & Eve, also discovered 33 percent of women have no preference when it comes to male genitalia.
Nearly 10 percent of the survey subjects declined to answer the question.
Male circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin from the penis. The procedure most commonly is performed shortly after an infant’s birth, but may be performed later in life for health or cosmetic reasons. In some sociocultural and religious groups, the practice is forbidden.
“Circumcision is largely a cultural choice,” said Adam & Eve’s resident sexpert, Dr. Kat Van Kirk. “With circumcision prevalent in the U.S. — as well as the Muslim world, Africa and Israel — many American women have never been exposed to an uncircumcised penis.”
The web-based survey, conducted by an independent third party on behalf of Adam & Eve, was part of a continuing investigation into the sexual practices and preferences of American adults. More than 1,000 people 18 and older took part.
