Females represent a solid core of online adult entertainment surfers and their numbers are increasing every day. With this in mind, YNOT News will present you with spotlights and articles on female webmasters. The women surfer market is enormous and will continue to grow. Ladies sometimes require a different taste than traditional hardcore porn sites. Women webmasters (webmistresses) featured on YNOT News will help explain what women want from adult entertainment sites.
This week, The Adult Webmistress (TAWess) interviews Debbie Owoc of Thee Hen House (http://www.theeHenhouse.com).
For webmasters looking to attract female surfers, check out Thee (sic) Hen House as a classic example of a for women site that has a simple text-based design (no hard core-in-your-face banners and pics), is surfer friendly, which women highly appreciate, and easy to navigate, with lots of choices. And it’s very popular. Thee Hen House is consistently the top referrer at my for women site!
Thee Hen House is a busy place where a surfer will find free erotic stories galore, stories written by the webmistress herself! Also included at Hen is an amateur gallery with sponsor content, adult chat, erotic bookmarks of other adult sites, a “dick-tionary” for the “sexually uninhibited” writer, as well as a feature website, adult toy store, a list of Hen’s top referrers, a Webmaser Area, and more great places to visit! I was pleased to have Thee Hen’s webmistress conduct an interview. She has some great insight into creating, promoting, and maintaining a successful for women site!
TAWess: How did you get involved with the adult online industry?
Hen: A friend of mine helped me learn how to make web pages. I signed up for a sponsor program but I didn’t have any content. I began writing my own erotic stories. Now my site is booming.
TAWess: What inspired you?
Hen: I figured some people make money off of adult entertainment. Why not me. I saw Danni from Danni’s hard drive on Howard Stern and I thought she is doing what I want to do.
TAWess: Was it difficult getting traffic to your site?
Hen: Yes … very … I kept hitting dead ends and when you don’t get any traffic, no one wants to link with you. I think that eventually all of my free stories is what made people want to link to me. The more great content I have, the more other webmasters want to link with me.
TAWess: How did you do it? SE submissions … link trades … toplists?
Hen: A lot of my traffic is from erotic story top lists. However, I do get a great deal from other erotic story webmasters like Pixie’s Place and Jennifer’s Voyeurism stories. Also, key words in your meta tags are very important for search engine traffic.
TAWess: Is this a full-time venture?
Hen: I am a happy home maker. I don’t really consider this full time. I have other things to do during the day with cooking, cleaning, washing clothes, and taking care of any little problems that may arise. My husband makes a decent living for all of us but, this is my only income source.
TAWess: Is it a fun hobby?
Hen: Sometimes I really enjoy what I do! I may write a story, re-read it, and laugh because I am so happy and excited with the way it played out. Other times I think I don’t even feel like looking at that site today.
TAWess: Do you get or anticipate gay surfers?
Hen: Yes, I do have some gay stories. I look forward to gay surfers.
TAWess: What do you like the least about being an adult webmaster?
Hen: Although there are many days that I may only be online for an hour or less, I feel like I never get a day off…
TAWess: What do you like most about being an adult webmaster?
Hen: I can work in my night gown. I can work at any time of day or night. I can even drink a beer if I want while I’m working. Does it get any better than that?
TAWess: What’s your advice for other women interested in doing an adult website?
Hen: READ!!! Read everything you can find about creating your website. Go to newbie boards. Before you ask someone for a link trade see who else they traded links with. That way you can get an idea of what kind of traffic you will get from them. Learn how to put [key words] in your meta tags. Be careful when choosing a sponsor. It’s not as easy as everyone thinks it is. You have to enjoy it to do it. Good Luck!
