The attendance was high, and contrary to what you might expect, about 50% of the room was filled with men. The panel of speakers included Holly Moss (HMoss Consulting, founder), Lori (Xbiz), Joan Irvine (ASACP), Rainey Stricklin (Rainy Stricklin Marketing), and Brittany Andrews (Britco Pictures).
Women In Adult (WIA) patterns itself after Women In Film, a mainstream organization with similar goals of empowering, nurturing, and mentoring women in the industry. The initial focus of the group is to establish a membership base through network events; eventually the organization hopes to boast a solid network of successful adult industry professionals.
WIA will be focusing on issues relevant to their charter as the organization develops. Covering the seminar at the request of YNOT Masters, reporter Brandon Shalton (of FightThePatent.com) asked if WIA plans to take on social issues of special importance to women, such sexual harassment on photo or film shoots. Speaker Brittany Andrews had spoken about that exact issue during an earlier panel.
Speakers agreed that WIA should broaden its focus beyond simply promoting networking and business relations in order to include important social issues such as sexual harassment at the workplace. While the organization has managed to get its feet off the ground, it continues to grow and evolve.
Also emphasized during the seminar was the fact that WIA is not a “women only” organization. The group strongly encourages men to join.
For more information about WIA you can visit the group’s Web site at www.womeninadult.org. Sponsors of the organization include Mansion Productions, TopBucks, xBiz.com and ePassporte.
