Woman Posts Pics On Facebook, Loses Her Insurance Benefits
YNOT – In yet another example of why it’s not a good idea to blast your personal life out to anybody on Facebook, a Canadian woman saw her insurance benefits cut after she posted vacation pictures on the popular social networking website.Nathalie Blanchard was on paid sick leave after being diagnosed by her psychiatrist as suffering from massive depression. Her doctor recommended that she go on vacation, and that’s exactly what she did – and shared the pictures of her good times with the Facebook community.
Her insurance company, however, saw the pictures as simple proof that Blanchard was fit for work and apparently without notice suspended her disability payments.
“The issue for me is that they stopped her disability benefits without the proper medical recommendations,” said her attorney, Tom Lavin. “Her doctor recommended she go on vacation.”
The offending pictures in question showed Blanchard at her birthday party, on a sunny vacation, and catching the act at a male strip club.
“It’s good warning for people who use Facebook,” said Lavin. “It’s not like being at home and writing in your diary. It’s out there for the whole world to see.”
