Woman Jailed in the UK for Selling Pirated and Unclassified Porn DVDs
BEDFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND – A Chinese woman has been jailed in England after confessing to the sale of pirated mainstream and “unclassified” pornographic DVDs, according to a report by BedfordToday.co.uk
Pin Zhu Li, a Chinese national who resides in Germany, was arrested at the Flitwick town center on September 29, according to MK-News.co.uk. The arrest was made by a “special constable” employed by Bedfordshire County Council’s Trading Standards service.
After the arrest, the DVD’s in Li’s possession were examined by a trading standards officer, who reported to Magistrates that “not only were there copies of the latest blockbuster films, but also a considerable quantity of DVDs containing images of hard core pornography,” according to the Bedford Today article.
Last Friday, Li pleaded guilty to supplying pirated and unclassified DVDs, including some that “crossed the boundary into obscenity,” according to the Bedford Today report.
Li’s sentence will be very brief – eight days – a fact attributable in part to the fact that the Magistrates took into account the fact that Li was scheduled to return to Germany on October 3rd to be with her four children. The magistrates also ordered the destruction of the DVDs.
The incident isn’t Li’s first run-in with the law for distributing pirated wares; she served a short sentence for dealing in counterfeit goods in January, as well.
The Bedford Today article also states that the “trading standard chiefs at County Hall have issued a stern ‘watch it’ warning to porn peddlers,” following the arrest and sentencing of Li.
“Once again Bedfordshire’s trading standards officers and special constables have brought an individual before the courts who thought it was acceptable to deal in both pirated and pornographic DVDs,” said Councillor Bob King, the executive member for community services.
“This case is yet another demonstration of the determination of our service to protect Bedfordshire’s residents from the activities of people like this,” added King.
