Woman Faces Prison for Noisy Sex
SUNDERLAND, ENGLAND — A British woman faces up to five years in prison after violating a court order to dial down the volume on her bedroom fun.On April 16th, magistrates levied a fine of £515 against Caroline Cartwright, 48, and placed her under an Anti Social Behavior Order demanding she refrain from “making excessive noise” during sex. Six days later, Cartwright was arrested after neighbors complained about the sounds emanating from the bedroom she shares with her husband of 24 years, Steve.
During the ASBO hearing, an environmental health officer reported receiving 250 complaints about Cartwright’s noisy sexual behavior. A neighbor’s audio recording of the couple’s activities was played in open court.
Concluding Cartwright’s behavior was disruptive of the peace, magistrates placed the woman under a 24-hour noise-abatement ASBO, effective across the entire UK for a period of four years. Under the terms of the ASBO, Cartwright is prohibited from making “excessive noise, knocking, shouting, screaming or vocalization” that can be heard outside her residence. In addition, she and her husband are prohibited from playing loud music.
Cartwright will face judgement in magistrate court on Monday.
