Wife Rejects First-Ever Transplanted Penis, So Hubby Chooses to be Dickless
CHINA — It seemed like a good idea at the time — but after 10 days with a dead man’s dick, a 44-year-old Chinese husband and his wife begged the doctors who had attached the member to make it go away. After being injured in “a traumatic accident” that made it impossible for him to urinate or have intercourse, the unnamed man and his wife had agreed that a penis transplant might solve their problems. And, in fact, it had. After living sans genitals for 8 months, the man underwent what is being called a first-of-its-kind procedure to attach a donated penis to the injured man’s body.
Within 10 days, the man was able to urinate again — and his body showed no signs of rejecting the four-inch donor organ.
Unfortunately, the psychological aspects of using a brain-dead 22-year-old’s donated penis was too much for the couple. As reported by Hu, “The patient finally decided to give up the treatment, because of the wife’s psychological rejection, as well as the swollen shape of the transplanted penis.”
According to a report published on the European Urology’s online journal and written by Dr. Weilie Hu, “Because of a severe psychological problem of the recipient and his wife, the transplanted penis regretfully had to be cut off.”
Using the same microsurgery techniques that had resulted in the historic genital grafting, Dr. Hu and his team of Guangzhou General Hospital surgeons separated what they had previously brought together.
Hu does not know whether the penis could have become or ever was capable of sexual function.
