The Well-Educated have Less Sex, but They’re Kinkier
BATH, England – University graduates often command higher incomes and more prestigious jobs than those without degrees, but the lesser-educated have sex more often. So say data collected recently on behalf of adult novelty retailer Lovehoney.
When an independent third-party company surveyed 2,000 adults about their bedroom habits, it found 13 percent of non-degreed respondents reported having sex daily, while the same was true for only 10 percent of those who completed university. The non-degreed are also nearly twice as likely to consider themselves better lovers, with five percent rating themselves 10 on a 10-point scale.
University graduates came out on top, so to speak, when discussing bondage, though: About 66 percent of degreed respondents admitted trying BDSM in the bedroom, and 44 percent of them said they “loved it.” In contrast, only 37 percent of those without degrees copped to even trying power play.
Non-graduates, did, however, admit to indulging in outdoor sex slightly more often than their better-educated counterparts: 77 percent to 70 percent, respectively. In addition, 79 percent of non-graduates indicated they have had more than one or two sexual partners and 22 percent have participated in a threesome, compared to 73 percent and 19 percent, respectively, of those who’ve obtained university degrees — so the lesser-educated are not entirely unadventurous.
The results of a previous study of 1,600 adults, released by Lovehoney earlier this month, correlated wages with sexual habits. According to that data, just 4 percent of those who earn $85,000 or more per year have sex daily, and a third of them have sex only once per week. In contrast, 12 percent of those who earn $25,000 or less annually have sex daily; 17 percent of them have sex once per week, and 50 percent have sex “multiple times weekly.”
On the other hand, the higher earners tended to be more adventurous. Forty-five percent of those earning $85,000 or more admitted to having had at least one threesome, compared to only 19 percent of those earning $25,000 or less. A whopping 83 percent of the top wage earners said they have had sex outdoors, while only 66 percent of those on the lower end of the scale had tried imitating the birds and the bees among the birds and the bees.
