Website for Middle School in Georgia Accidentally Links to Porn Site
DEKALB COUNTY, GA – A middle school in Georgia has learned the hard way about the difficulty of monitoring the content on third-party sites. When Stone Mountain Middle School originally added a link from the school’s website to www.BlackGirlMagazine.com school officials probably never envisioned that it might some day become a pornographic search engine. That’s precisely what happened, however, and as a result, the school’s site featured a link to the new porn site, albeit for a brief period of time.
According to WSB-TV of Atlanta, BlackGirlMagazine.com was originally a “legitimate” website, which founder and publisher Jordana James created to appeal to teenage girls. James, a senior at a local high school had even been honored with several awards for her magazine.
Earlier this year, however, James allowed her registration of the domain name to lapse, and it was snatched up by a company that lists an address on the island of Curacao and now serves as a porn search front-end.
Readers of the Stone Mountain Middle School site that clicked the link at any time since July 2nd have been directed to the current version of BlackGirlMagazine.com.
According to an article posted on WSBTV.com the link was removed after the news station brought the situation to the attention of school officials.
“In the future we will monitor [the website] a lot closer,” said DeKalb County School District spokesman Dale Davis in a statement issued by the district.
