Webmaster Central Expands Mobile Offerings
YNOT – Thanks to a recently completed encoding update, the majority of Webmaster Central’s leased video feeds now are available in formats suitable for every major mobile device. According to WC Chief Technical Officer Gabriel K., mobile users can view the content on devices manufactured by Apple (iPhone and iPod), Blackberry, Samsung, Nokia, LG, Palm and Sony (PlayStation Portable), among others. The video streams beautifully on operating systems including iPhone, Windows and Android, he said.“The second we finished testing and made it active, we immediately saw traffic start to come in from every one of the new devices,” Gabriel K. revealed.
WC spokesman Joel added, “Before [the new encoding effort] it was just the iPhone, and that remains 70 percent of the mobile traffic we get. The other phones compose the other 30 percent, but I believe that will grow with the Android becoming more popular.”
Google’s Android operating system recently debuted on several phones offered by Verizon Wireless, Sprint and T-Mobile. The open-source OS for both desktop and mobile devices has been touted as the closest thing yet to giving Apple’s iPhone OS a significant challenge in the mobile space.
WC President Andy Alvarez revealed mobile traffic to the company’s online theaters has risen from 3 percent prior to the encoding upgrade to 13 percent within the past week.
“We haven’t even notified our clients yet, but I think they will be pleased,” Alvarez said.
“It definitely surprised us,” Joel added.
The new mobile feeds are available in 75 of WC’s niched theaters. The only products not upgraded are some of the older feeds that do not exist in the requisite MP4 format, Joel told YNOT.com. An auto-detect feature built in to every “mobilized” feed delivers the appropriate content based on the user’s platform on the desktop or his mobile device.
“It’s completely seamless,” Joel noted.
According to Alvarez, the mobile revolution may have taken a while to reach the adult entertainment space, but now that it has arrived it is exciting in the intensity of desire users display for the content.
“This is the biggest shift in this industry that I have seen,” Alvarez said. “I cannot believe there are adult sites not taking advantage of this income stream.
“If you are an adult pay site owner and you are not offering mobile content, you sure are missing out.”
