Washington Politician Proposes Statewide Porn Tax
OLYMPIA, WA — When the economy gets desperate, tax hike lovers follow suit. Although air and photosynthesis remain tax-free, one Washington state politician thinks that citizens and visitors should pay an additional 19-percent to view erotic materials. Federal Way State Rep. Make Miloscia has proposed a 19-percent tax on adult magazines, videos, telephone services and paraphernalia in the hopes of helping those physically and mentally unable to work.
At risk is not merely the economic accessibility of sexually explicit products for those within the state of Washington but, the General Assistance-Unemployable program. Clearly, Miloscia considers the latter to be of greater importance.
While the loss of the program or even a decrease in its services is not a sure thing; merely a likelihood if Gov. Chris Gregoire’s budget proposal is passed, Miloscia thinks the tax is just the thing to bring justice back into the system.
Before the 19-percent tax can be enacted, a supermajority of the Legislature or approval by the voters must occur. Miloscia has informed The Statesman-Review that he is confident that his tax proposal will be well received by the Legislature and pass into law thanks to a statewide vote.
