Vivid-Alt Director Eon McKai to Lecture at UCSB This Week
LOS ANGELES, CA – EEon McKai, head of the new “Vivid-Alt” branch of Vivid Entertainment, is slated to appear as a guest lecturer at the University of California, Santa Barbara, on Wednesday, May 24th.McKai, who holds a masters degree from the California Institute of the Arts, has also taught filmmaking, according to a press release issued by Vivid Entertainment. McKai’s early films were instrumental in the rise of the “alt-adult” movement, and he has been profiled in such mainstream publications as the New York Times, Village Voice and the Los Angeles Times.
In his lecture for the Department of Film Studies at UCSB, McKai plans to talk about the influences on his own filmmaking. “I loved the films of the ‘70s and ‘80s,” said McKai, “especially the work of Alex de Renzy and Gregory Dark.” Students will also screen clips hand-picked by McKai as examples for the lecture.
“It wasn’t that long ago that I was working on my own masters degree at CalArts,” noted McKai, 26, “so it’s a great thrill to be going back to school to talk about porn with film students.”
Appearing with McKai will be alt-porn star and director Joanna Angel, who will address her move from the Web to DVDs. Angel is the “guiding light” behind BurningAngel.com a website that “unites indie music and pornography,” according to the Vivid release.
