Viagra Increases Love Hormone in Men
MADISON, WI — A group of researchers at the University of Wisconsin reported last week in the Journal Of Physiology that Viagra and other sex-boosting pills for men raise more than just cocks — they also raise the levels of a hormone linked to amorous feelings in men. Viagra raised and released the level of the hormone Oxytocin in test subject rats’ blood, according to the observing scientists.Oxytocin also is present in raised levels in women during nursing and child birth and it comes out in both sexes during sexual stimulation and orgasms. But something about Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra make the hormone come out and play in higher levels than normal.
“This is one piece in a puzzle in which many pieces are still not available,” physiology professor Meyer Jackson said in a statement. “But it raises the possibility that erectile dysfunction drugs could be doing more than just affecting erectile dysfunction.”
Jackson went on to suggest that the erectile drugs could be used for relationship and social bonding.
“What I hope is that people read our paper can test these ideas in animals and humans,” Jackson said.
The study doesn’t get into any possible dependence issues surrounding the erectile drugs, but only in recent years has oxytocin been found to have the effects that it does on men.
