Transgender Burglary Suspect Claims Harassment

OLYMPIA, Wash. – If you’re going to ransack an adult store for goodies, make sure the store doesn’t have a video surveillance system. A burglar-wannabe in Washington State learned that lesson the hard way.
A video captured by surveillance cameras at Lovers adult boutique preserved every detail of a man’s unauthorized mid-night shopping spree, from the time he threw a rock through the glass front door until he slipped back out with a shopping cart full of loot. The suspect made off with big-ticket items, some worth as much as $200 apiece.
Based on the surveillance video and an inventory of the missing merchandise, store manager David Leigh said the thief knew exactly what to target.
“He loaded up with toys, and it was a pretty targeted ‘hit,’ if you want to call it that,” Leigh told WWLP News. “He did a fine job in getting some pretty great stuff in a very short period of time.”
Unfortunately for Arthur Ray Brown, 24, his “getaway cart” ratted him out. Police spotted the cart and Brown near the store and busted the hapless desperado before he could make a clean escape.
“He let the police know that he felt he was being harassed and that they were only doing this because he’s transgender,” Leigh told the TV news station. “They said, ‘No, it’s because you’re a burglary suspect caught with the stolen items.’”
This is the second Lovers store in Washington State to fall prey to a burglar — possible the same burglar — within the past year. In May 2013, a thief hit the Lovers store in nearby Silverdale. The perp took a mannequin and left. Later, he returned wearing the mannequin’s wig and made off with some lingerie.
“He’s got some weird fetish going on maybe,” Lovers customer Sharon Boyle told WWLP News. “Could be. Crazy things people do these days.”
