‘Trans Porn Goes Mainstream,’ Says Mainstream News
Hollywood, CA — TS performer, director, producer and radio show host Kimber Haven is quoted in a recently-published article on Ozy.com. “Trans Porn, Long shunned, Goes Mainstream” (July 11, 2019) explores how, “led by stars with growing evidence of audience appeal, trans porn is stepping out of the shadows into the limelight.”
The article features insights from Haven, jessica drake, Bree Mills, Riley Reyes, Natassia Dreams and Steven Grooby. Its thesis essentially states that, with some exception in the past two to three years, though “the traditional porn world largely shunned trans performers… wider cultural forces like the broad acceptance of Caitlyn Jenner have slowly worn at mainstream porn’s reluctance.”
Okay.
Haven, for her part, stated: “Things have come a long way from how they were ten years ago… Trans porn has become more mainstream and accepted.” This is a true fact, though I am not sure this changing tide was as mainstream-led as the author of the Ozy article would have us believe.
The article also delves into how big-name porn performers have begun working with trans women — performers including Angela White and Riley Reid. The author also denotes drake’s 2017 film jessica drake Is Wicked — which featured a four-way between herself and Aubrey Kate, Venus Lux and Domino Presley — as being seminal in this sea change. To wit, “It was a statement that shook the porn world.”
Prior to 2017, according to the article, “trans porn had been relegated to the industry’s margins. It was rare for cisgender female performers, much less a major star working with a big studio, to make porn with trans women. Trans content was generally ghettoized, produced primarily by studios dedicated to that genre, and targeted since the 1990s as a secret fetishistic pleasure for cisgender, heterosexual men.”
Today, we are seeing the disappearance of the word/slur “tranny,” as well as more trans performers being featured in mainstream projects. This is also a true fact, but I am not sure how much Caitlyn Jenner had to do with this.
“This article will definitely bring trans porn into the mainstream arena,” Haven stated. “It’s a huge genre, and there’s lots of demand for it. I hope the demand will continue to rise, especially with the quality, high production movies my studio, Bad Girl Mafia, focuses on making.”
Though there are definitely some sticking points in this article, as Haven would likely agree, the piece is a net positive overall.
