Traffic Ticket Outburst Earns Woman Court Ordered Apology
SHAWNEE, KS — Who hasn’t wanted to pop off at a police officer for writing up a traffic ticket? How about write something pithy and evocative on the check associated with that ticket? While the urge may well be universal, one Kansas woman has learned that not resisting it can come at an additional price. In this case, the price was a formal apology.
Oh, and a suspended driver’s license.
Angela Shopper was none-too-happy when she had to write a $105 check for having committed the sin of driving with a broken tail light. In order to make that fact crystal clear, she included a number of expletives on the check.
Alas for Shopper, the clerks that handled her check were equally unimpressed by the editorial statements that it contained.
Yesterday she avoided contempt of court charges by apologizing to the clerks for her harshly worded financial response, although she also maintained that the fine was an over reaction to a minor problem.
“I apologized,” she explained to KCTV of Kansas City, MO. “I’m not trying to offend anyone who works here, but it offends me the size of that ticket; $105 for a brake light is excessive.”
Although Shopper’s profanity laden check was never cashed, her license was suspended and will not be reinstated until she pays an additional $45 fee.
