Titty Tote: Empowering Women, Saving the Planet?
NEW YORK – How’s this for dual-purpose: a new tote bag not only helps to cut down on harm to the environment but also, allegedly, makes a bold statement about sexual equality.
Like other reusable totes, The Titty Tote from Filthy Gorgeous Media offers a saner alternative to paper or plastic shopping bags. Both traditional types of bags require significant resources to manufacture. In most U.S. states, few are recycled, so they end up clogging landfills, storm drains and wildlife habitats.
That’s only one of the benefits of the Titty Tote, though. According to the manufacturer, the product also “empowers women and promotes equality worldwide.” This one is a bit dodgy, as it’s difficult to fathom how a product with “titty” in its name and displaying a random pair of breasts bedecked with angry emoticons empowers women. Clever marketing stance, though.
Of potentially more impact on women’s empowerment is Filthy Gorgeous Media’s vow to make a quarterly donation of sales revenue to breast cancer awareness and research foundations. Although the company does not specify what percentage of sales it intends to donate or which foundations will benefit, at least Filthy Gorgeous has a philanthropic thought in mind.
Product specifications indicate the bag is 15 inches by 15 inches of weather-resistant spun polyester. The tote’s twin handles are made of cotton bull denim.
