Tipping Cam Stars for Fun and Profit
YNOT – Video Secrets has changed the way its network of live webcam sites handles tipping. According to a company representative, the new system — which allows viewers to tip performers much as they would in a brick-and-mortar club — will benefit not only performers, but also affiliates.
“With our new variable tipping system, performers have more options to entice their customers into tipping amounts that weren’t previously available,” said Operations Manager Brad Estes. “This makes it more exciting for customers and more profitable for our performers and traffic partners.”
Rather than tipping performers predetermined amounts, customers on any of the Video Secrets network of sites now may enter any credit value they wish, with a new maximum of 100,000 credits. A “Tip Flood” option that helps good tippers stand out from the crowd, encouraging performers to compete for their attention.
“Raising the cap on tips from 1,000 credits to 100,000 credits was an obvious move in light of the recent record-setting tips some performers have been receiving from their most loyal fans,” Estes said.
Estes said performers and fans seem to enjoy the Tip Flood option: Customers who tip at least 1,000 credits at a time may elect to have the tip automatically divided into 20 batches of credits. The tips display in the chat window one at a time, allowing the fan to impress not only the performer, but also other viewers in public chats.
“While some fans may prefer private shows, others enjoy the spotlight of impressing performers in public chat where customers and the performers can all see how they start a tip flood to keep the good times rolling,” Estes said.
Video Secrets launched its tipping program in 2009. Tips now account for more than 15 percent of annual revenue, Estes revealed. To preserve revenue streams for performers and affiliates alike, Video Secrets veered away from putting too intense a focus on tipping. Instead, the company elected to pursue a revenue model that blends tipping with private-shows, for which per-minute rates can run as high as $15.
“The hybrid approach provides the best revenue potential for affiliates and performers alike,” Estes opined. “Allowing for custom tip amounts dramatically increases the options for performers to create dynamic and engaging experiences in their rooms. Affiliates can instantly capitalize on the growing cam-tipping market by promoting Flirt 4 Free or by creating their own white-label cam site.”
