The Unanticipated Stardom of Tiffany Starr
By Peter Berton
YNOT – Tiffany Starr long knew that she wanted to live as a woman. But as a T-girl adult performer? Well, as she told us, that was quite an unanticipated career event, even for an intelligent and thoughtful woman.
YNOT.com: Please tell us about yourself.
Tiaffany Starr: I was born and raised in Boston, Mass., and grew up with a loving family. I am a college student and enjoy the campus I am currently attending. I am a very social person and love to make friends.
I play a lot of video games, especially Magic: The Gathering. I am really into [Dungeons & Dragons] and going to anime conventions. I love to dance at clubs, shop for cute clothes and makeup, go out to dinner and watch movies, and I love to travel. I exercise often and try to eat healthy, but most of all I love hot sex.
When, how and why did you make your transition?
I transitioned when I was 17. I wanted to transition ever since I found that it was possible to do so at age 15. However, I had a girlfriend to whom I eventually became engaged, which complicated my decision to transition. In the end, of course, I made the right choice.
I started my transition by telling everyone about my being trans. I told my father first, since I knew he would take it the hardest, and after him everyone else would be a breeze. I then told my job and friends and rest of the family.
I then started living as a woman and went to get my name change, hormones and the F on my [driver’s] license. I got my hormones first, then the name change; lastly the F. Since then, I have had some surgeries to improve my body. But those three things were the most important to get out of the way, and I did it all in less than one year.
I was proud of myself, even though I went through a lot of time and money. I’m fortunate, though, since I have had little hassle from people during my transition. Everyone was just very accepting.
The reason for my transition was because I am mentally female. I knew so at a young age but didn’t know why I was different until I was older. When I found out, I just had to change my body to fit my mind and personality. Best decision I have ever made.
What brought you into the adult industry?
Honestly? Bad luck. I always had an interest in trying adult entertainment, but I had such a good life there was no point. I had an amazing job that paid very well, a beautiful girlfriend I loved and a great car.
In January of 2011, though, I lost it all. In one month, I was devastated. My car was totaled by a huge truck. Two weeks later I was laid off, and then one week after that my girlfriend and I split.
After losing what felt like my life, I felt desperate. So I decided “what better time than now to try adult film?” I mean, after all, I always wanted to try it and now nothing was holding me back — plus I needed the money.
So I contacted some of the girls in the industry. My friend Amy Daly offered to shoot with me, and before I flew to shoot with her I scheduled a bunch of other shoots with other companies. I ended up shooting for most of the major companies in two weeks.
Apparently I became popular, and since then I have been running a site, shooting DVDs, stripping at clubs and parties, and just enjoying life.
What are your achievements to date?
In the adult industry? Well, being picked up by the company I work for, SMC Productions, was big for me, and they picked me up after shooting for them after two days.
Then I shot a bunch of DVDs for many companies such as Devil’s Film, Shemale Strokers and Evil Angel; I’ve been on the cover of most of the DVDs in which I appeared. I was also a headlining girl for the Tranny Strip in New York City and I’ve had my own website made and put up.
The success of my website, and how fast I made friends and fans in the industry, are all great achievements to me. I was Shemale Yum Girl of the Month last year and was very popular at [the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo]. No one knew I was a transsexual unless they were fans. Also, the fact I have been getting my life back on track with the money I have made makes me feel like I’ve accomplished a lot and rebounded pretty well from what happened to me early 2011.
What do you love and hate about the adult industry?
I love some of the people I’ve met. I have met some great girls like Juliette Stray, Carmen Moore, Foxxy and many others. I also love the companies I work for that treat me with respect and love to shoot me. I also love the fact I get to travel and see new locations.
Also the sex — it’s great and I have so much of it. I especially like it when I shoot for a company and they throw a hot, young 19-year-old girl my way, or when I hire those cute girls myself for my site. I am a very social and sexual person, and this industry delivers both to me.
As for the bad? Well, not everyone I meet is someone I care to see or work with. Also, there are some minor complaints, like the new condom law in [Los Angeles] that gets on my nerves every so often. And taking a taxi anywhere is a pain in my ass.
What is the funniest experience you have had in your work?
Funniest? Hm…. Well, once I was shooting for Kink.com with a girl named Ashlynn Leigh, a beautiful and super friendly girl. We became friends, and we both found each other incredibly attractive. The chemistry was great! We were having sex even when the camera wasn’t rolling, cracking jokes and just having fun.
During one break she was still tied up with her legs together and her arms tied to the bed. So I decided to rub her clitoris and found that she enjoyed it. However, she had no control over [the situation], so I kept doing it and it drove her mad. It was basically forced orgasm and me, her, the cameraman and even the director were laughing our asses off while she screamed to stop pleasing her. [The cameraman] even started recording it for the scene, since it was so hilarious. I am sure people will see it when it comes out.
On the serious side, what don’t people know or understand about you?
Surprisingly, a lot of the girls in the industry and a lot of people in general don’t understand how a transsexual woman could like women. I mean, is it really that hard to grasp?
I think it’s self-explanatory. My gender doesn’t define my sexuality. I transitioned because I am a woman mentally and had to make my mind and body match, not to be with men. But it’s socially acceptable for T-girls to like men, as a lot of the girls do — not all but some — and so everyone assumes I do.
It’s very aggravating to listen to a transsexual woman talk about how to date a transsexual and who transsexuals date. There are YouTube videos and porn stars who always try to give tips on how men can date transsexuals and how transsexuals love men so much.
I have news for you, girls: Not all of us like men that way, and there are a lot of transsexuals who are lesbian or bisexual out there.
I feel it’s a terrible stereotype, and I think those girls should realize there are plenty of women out there who would love to date us. I know for a fact, since I’ve dated plenty of women since I transitioned. If biological women can be lesbians, why not transsexual women? It makes perfect sense to me.
A lot of the industry girls also don’t understand my geeky side. Try getting a group of transsexuals to play Diablo 3 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 online. Or how about getting 50 transsexual porn stars together and trying to make a group of 10 of them to start a D&D game? I bet you a dick in the ass that you may get around six to eight of those 50 interested. Luckily I love dancing, drinking and clubbing, so I still have fun with my porn star friends.
Whew! So what are your future goals?
To get all my surgeries done and finish school. Then I will get a job separate from porn — I may continue it on the side — and invest in a house. Get married and have a dog. I also will get a good car.
I will have financial security, a place to stay and friends to be around, a loving wife — or maybe husband — a loyal pet and have my happily-ever-after, white-picket-fence American dream complete.
That is my ultimate goal. I would also like to be in a movie some day, but that seems unlikely. I have always wanted to do mainstream acting. I could just stick with porn, but I can’t do it forever and I need a backup plan.
