The Truth Behind Free Hosts

Did you know that more than 50% of free-hosted sites illegally use copyrighted material? I do, because I designed and administered a free host site for the last 6 months. I am here to give you the straight facts about Free Hosts, how to choose a good one that’s not a fraud, and provide tips to keep your account from getting zapped. (BTW, I am no longer affiliated with any free hosts; I just thought I’d share these goodies!)
1. Free Hosting is a really competitive business these days. They use counters on all the pages (usually SEXTRACKER) and they battle it out on the SITE RANKS board there. If the free host you are considering joining isn’t there, it probably won’t last. That should teach you something: if they delete an account that’s getting good traffic, their rank is going to drop on the TOP SITE page. Hence, these places most likely wont DELETE an account or individual pages.
2. Check out the advertising before joining a program. \’\’.\’% of all free host traffic (that isn’t under certain terms and conditions of course) is TGP traffic. Quality of this traffic is extremely low, as most surfers are looking for “Free Porn.” When my ex-site was doing about 300k uniques a day, we ran tests that showed less than 50 clicks on commercial upsells. If you don’t see some kind of misleading banner or image, or a unique up sell or email requirement, or some form of long term program that the host will benefit from, then they will soon have to find ways (cheating) to make up the costs. Look for free hosts with misleading, but not directly blind, links. There is a huge difference!
3. Check out TGPs. If a free host domain is blacklisted there, you can bet it’s because they delete galleries. You won’t see sites listed on SEXTRACKER blacklisted. You don’t want blacklisted free host sites anyway, because your galleries won’t be listed.
4. Check out their “error 404” page. It’s one of the many ways a free host pays its bills. They create accounts themselves, and then delete them, but they’re still listed in the free host site’s search engine. So surfers who are browsing the search engines are the ones affected by these “advertisements.” If a free host doesn’t have this feature, I’d stay away, because it means they don’t know the business.
