Thanksgiving: Not the Time for Online Porn Consumption
Generally, the folks at xHamster share data that showcases bumps and rises in their site’s traffic, presumably indicative of good times to be online and/or unexpected/”unexpected” times that people are watching porn.
During the Super Bowl, during national tragedies, during patriotic holidays and even during religious ones — there seems to be some sort of traffic action to jump on during each. But not when it comes to Thanksgiving.
xHamster recently released some “extra salty” data about traffic dips occurring on their site during previous years’ Thanksgivings. The following graph showcases their self-reported traffic fall — and subsequent creep — hour by hour during the holiday day.
“In the U.S., Thanksgiving tends to be the day of the year when traffic falls most dramatically,” said Alex Hawkins, Vice-President of xHamster.
Hawkins attributed the dip to “a combination of very little privacy, lots of travel and the redirection of blood flow to the stomach.” He also added that “some studies have shown that tryptophan may help with erectile dysfunction, which may explain why — after the meal is over — traffic seems to rise.”
Hawkins did not link to any of these studies, nor did he include references.
Further, Hawkins said that, “Unsurprisingly, we see an increase in ‘f@mily searches’ during the holidays — and Thanksgiving brings together blended f@milies more than other holidays, with stepsisters, stepmothers and other more distant relations at the table.”
(I am not sure what the story is with the @ in “f@amily” — anyone know?)
Hawkins concluded with a distressing final note. “[T]he most disturbing thing we see is the dramatic decline in searches for ‘wife’ on Thanksgiving. You think after all that work, but be a little more appreciation!” he said.
Which, “disturbing”? I don’t get it. But whatever. Hopefully you are having a great holiday, whatever it is you choose to be searching for!
