Texas Authorities Bust Three Shops for Obscenity
BEAUMONT, TX – Although details are still sketchy at best, what can safely be stated is that the manager of either Sunrise Records, Krazy Kat, or Bare Necessities — if not all three — in Beaumont, TX was probably not expecting what he encountered when he came back to work after lunch.Police officers with a warrant for his arrest.
They’d already raided the three shops, arrested the staff, and were ready to take him into custody, as well.
The charges weren’t for robbery, rape, assault, or disturbing the peace; they were for obscenity.
According to what little information is available via The Examiner, and Lt. Jim Clay of the Beaumont Police Department, who was part of the raid on Sunrise Records, “A citizen complained of obscene material being sold. An undercover investigation was launched. This is one of three businesses involved.”
As part of the investigation, an undercover officer purchased several items with tax payer money and then presented them to a Judge Walker, who deemed them obscene under Texas’ restrictive laws and granted search warrants.
“Officers are gathering items within the store, both videos and devices,” Clay explains, “Each will go under judicial review based on obscenity laws.”
The shops’ employees remain in jail pending formal charges.
