The Lollipop Effect is an interesting effect, it stands out dramatically and is also very eye catching.
1. Open up Photoshop.
2. Create a new canvas (200×200 pixel). Then using the ELLIPSE TOOL draw an ellipse in the middle of the canvas, then fill it in with a DARK RED color or whatever color you like.
3. Now select EDIT > FREE TRANSFORM in the menu and ROTATE the ellipse as shown in the below image:
4. Now HIDE the ELLIPSE that you have just made.
5. Create a NEW LAYER. Using the RECTANGULAR MARQUEE TOOL , create a rectangle as shown below and using the PAINT BUCKET TOOL , fill the triangle with YELLOW (or whatever color you like to use).
6. Go to the LAYERS PALETTE and select the LAYER which has the upside down triangle that you have just created. DRAG that layer into the NEW LAYER icon to duplicate the layer. (DO ABOUT 8 LAYERS)
7. Move each LAYER using the MOVE TOOL until they are all EVENLY spread across the canvas.
8. Once all the layers are evenly spread, we have to MERGE all the layers together. This is easily done by pressing CTRL + SHIFT + E, doing this will MERGE all the VISIBLE layers together.
9. Now go to the MENU on top and SELECT FILTER > DISTORT > POLAR COODINATES and click on it.
Select RECTANGULAR TO POLAR and click OK (NOTE: if your LINES are EVENLY spread out it will look uniform)
10. Once again in the MENU, select FILTER > DISTORT > TWIRL.
(SET the Angle to 55.) Now your LINES will have a TWIRL effect on it.
11. Now we need to DUPLICATE the LAYER as done with the LINES. DUPLICATE one LAYER at a time and using EDIT > FREE TRANSFORM method ROTATE the LAYER a few degress. REPEAT this step about 6 times and make sure that each layer ROTATES a few degress MORE than the prevoius LAYER.
12. Also remember the ELLIPSE we made before? we also need to DUPLICATE that LAYER as many times as you have DUPLICATED the TWIRL LINES. So if you had 6 TWIRL LAYERS and you would need to DUPLICATE 6 ELLIPSE LAYERS.
Once that has been done MOVE each ELLIPSE LAYER underneath each TWIRL LAYER i.e.
13. The next step is to MERGE and DELETE the un-nescessary parts. Lets start at the BOTTOM of the LAYERS PALETTE. We need to SELECT the bottom ELPISE and LINK it with the TWIRL LAYER on TOP of it. To LINK the 2 LAYERS together the box next to the EYE MUST be clicked.
*TIP* HIDE the other layers not currently being used, this will create less confusion.
Once the 2 layers have been LINKED, hold CTRL and PRESS the LEFT click on the ELLIPSE LAYER, this will SELECT all of the ELLIPSE. Then we need to inverse the SELECTION, this is done by pressing CTRL + SHIFT + I.
Atfer doing all that press CTRL+ E, this will MERGE the LINKED LAYERS together. HIT the DELETE BUTTON (or backspace) to erase the excess twirl.
Double click on the MERGED LAYER and click the BEVEL and EMBOSS box. Also click the CONTOUR box.
Now your LAYER will look like this :
REPEAT this until all the layers have been MERGED. (Therefore I would have 6 ELLIPSE TWIRLS).
13. Now you are ready to SAVE each layer as a seperate GIF file to be ready to be IMPORTED into GIF ANIMATOR!
In this next section we will be importing all the saved GIF files into GIF Animator and creating the animation.
1. Open up GIF Animator.
2. Select FILE > OPEN GIF and import all the images into GIF Animator.
3. Once files and images have been imported in GIF Animator then we need to set the TIMING correctly to get the best effect from this technique.
From personal experience, I set my TIMING to 10ms (1/100th of a second) for all frames, since it gives me the best and smoothest spin.
4. Finally when the TIME DELAY is all set correctly, SAVE the file and the finished version should look like this:
