SWR Data Report: 62% Adult Creators Now Use AI in Their Work
According to a new report from adult industry research firm SWR Data, “nearly two-thirds of adult content creators (62%) are now using artificial intelligence tools to expand or run their adult content businesses.”
Described as “preliminary data released in advance of SWR’s biennial 2024 State of the Creator report,” the figure comes from a survey of over 400 working adult creators conducted during July and August.
In a statement revealing the preliminary data, SWR said that “despite the widespread adoption “real world use of adult AI is so far defying those who fantasized — or feared — a flood of AI influencers replacing actual creators.”
According to the data, only “8% of creators who use AI have created ‘digital twins’ or other interactive AI versions of themselves,” while most creators (80%) who use AI are “using it for content or shoot inspiration.”
The data also suggests “about a quarter of creators (28%) using AI have generated adult AI content and about 1 in 5 (18%) has used AI to chat with fans.”
In the statement, SWR said opinions on AI in the adult creator community are “evenly split, with roughly as many viewing the technology positively (36%) as viewing it negatively (37%).” The statement added that according to the data, “those who are using AI in any capacity are dramatically more likely to feel positively about the technology and be open to expanding their use of AI.”
“The data counters a lot of the narratives around AI and adult creators,” said MelRose Michaels, co-founder of SWR Data. “There’s so much money being invested in adult AI right now, and platforms would do better to understand that creators are more interested in an extra set of hands than they are a sixth finger. We’re seeing some really compelling data as to who is using AI and how they’re using it.”
SWR Data, a market research firm serving the adult industry, was launched by Mike Stabile (Polari Media) and MelRose Michaels (SexWorkCEO) in 2023. The firm conducts both public and private market research for platforms and organizations, using “a slate of hundreds of working creators and fans to help them better understand and adapt to the needs of the rapidly evolving adult market.”
According to the statement, the 2024 State of the Creator report will be released “later this fall, with fuller data on current industry demographics, revenue, platform adoption and behaviors, as well as longitudinal data related to the previous State of the Creator report in 2022.”
