Swedish Elder Gets Mega Fast Internet Connection
SWEDEN — Most people old enough to be great-grandparents are still a little shy about uber modern technology, including the internet. A 75-year-old newbie to all that is broadband recently went faster and farther than anyone else in her neighborhood – and most likely, any neighborhood in the world.Sigbritt Lothberg’s 40-gigabits-per-second fiber-optic connection in Karlstad wasn’t installed by her local cable or telephone company. Instead, it came courtesy of city network unit head Hafsteinn Jonsson and Lothberg’s son, Peter.
The two men collaborated to provide Lothberg with enough pipe and drum to download an entire major motion picture onto her home computer in less than two seconds. By using a new modulation technique, two routers – a mere 1,240 miles apart and sans any intermittent transponders – the elder netizen has what is believed to be the fastest residential uplink on the entire planet.
“We wanted to show that there are no limitations to internet speed,” Lothberg the younger explained from his home in California, where he pursues a career in computer networking. “She’s a brand new internet user,” he went on, “She didn’t even have a computer before!”
But now she does – and she uses her unbelievable computing power… to read Web based newspapers.
