Suspected Murderer of Sologirl Emily Sander Extradited
WICHITA, KA —When 18-year-old Emily Sander left the Retreat bar on the evening of November 23rd with handsome new friend Israel Mireles, the newbie sologirl had no idea that the greatest claim to fame during her brief life would be becoming the sensationalized victim of a brutal murder. According to the Kansas attorney general’s office, Mexican authorities announced yesterday that the man believed to be responsible for Sander’s death will be extradited in order to face justice within the United States. Mireles was arrested at a relative’s home in Melchor Muzquiz in December.
Although mainstream journalists have been particularly focused on the fact that Sanders worked supposedly led a “secret life” as sologirl “Zoey Zane” for two months prior to her death, the 18-year-old was also a college student at Butler Community College.
Mireles, who has attracted less journalistic ink, is a legal immigrant who worked as a waiter at an Italian restaurant until he fled the country with his pregnant 16-year-old girlfriend, Victoria Martens. Although she initially refused to return to the states, Martens, who was nine-months pregnant at the time, contacted her father in late December and ask to be brought home. Instead, she was apprehended at the Mexican border and taken into juvenile custody in Texas.
In addition to charges of indecent liberties with a child, related to his impregnation of the then 15-year-old girl, he is accused of the capital murder, rape, and aggravated criminal sodomy of Sander, whose body was discovered in a freeway ditch 50 miles from the murder scene.
