“Subway Goddess” Commuter Train Stripper Arrested
CHILE — The woman dubbed by the Chilean media as “La Diosa del Metro” – the Subway Goddess – has removed her last blouse in public and shared her final “happy minutes” with transit riders, thanks to the authorities. Monserrat Moilles delighted and surprised subway riders for a week when the cheerful 26-year-old shared her love of dance, music, and saucy strip. After scouting out cars with no children, the professional dancer had shimmied down to her underwear – and then been dressed and off the train in time for the next station.
Alas, her impromptu and politically motivated performances did not set well with the authorities – who arrested her last week during a Santiago subway performance that wasn’t quite fast enough to elude the long arm of the law.
According to Gustavo Pradenas, Moilles’ manager, “Chile is still a pretty timid country. People aren’t very extroverted and we want to take aim at that and make Chile a happier country.”
Moilles, who never accepted tips during her week of happiness, told the press that she began the impromptu performances in order to challenge the nation’s prudishness and lack of tolerance.
Chile is one of the most conservative Latin American nations and Moilles is part of the first generation to reach adulthood since the Pinochet dictatorship.
Moilles assured Reuters as she was being surrounded by police and subway guards that “This is just the beginning. We are starting an idea here that will grow and be developed further.”
