Study: More than ¼ of Web Users Still Watch DVDs
By Stewart Tongue
YNOT – Nearly 57 percent of adults who use the internet don’t watch porn on smartphones, tablet computers or other mobile devices, according to the fourth Sex Tracker survey. More than a quarter of those surveyed (28.4 percent), however, indicated they own 100 or more X-rated DVDs, and most of those people watch their DVDs more than once.
According to the survey, sponsored by XCritic.com and Vivid Entertainment, 40.2 percent of adult DVD owners have watched each DVD between three and five times, 28.9 percent have watched each DVD only once or twice and 7 percent viewed each six to 10 times. Another 23.8 percent said they couldn’t remember how many times they’ve watched the DVDs in their collection. The survey sponsors said the results suggest a stable market of DVD enthusiasts may be segmenting itself from the rapidly expanding mobile porn community.
The survey also revealed that the star of a movie is the chief purchase motivator for the 60.8 percent of respondents who buy adult movies, while 15.1 percent purchase adult content because of the story line. Slightly more than 10 percent make their purchase decisions based on the production studio. Price, the director and a movie’s special effects apparently have little impact on a consumer’s buying habits, according to the survey.
Though mobile viewing may not interest many DVD collectors, the appeal of social media and interaction with their favorite porn stars appears to be vital. Nearly 55 percent of respondents said they follow or interact with their favorite stars online through social media.
