Study: Honesty about Porn is the Best Policy
By Peter Berton
CALGARY, Canada – Men hiding porn: Stop keeping the secret from your significant other. That’s the lesson to be drawn from a study conducted by University of Calgary researchers Kevin Alderson and Marley Resch.
A Journal of Sex and Martial Therapy article published by the pair of psychologists — “Female Partners of Men Who Use Pornography: Are Honesty and Mutual Use Associated With Relationship Satisfaction?” — detailed results drawn from 340 female participants aged 18-49 who were involved in committed heterosexual relationships.
The conclusion: Women whose male partners are open about their porn consumption feel more secure and more satisfied with their relationships than those whose partners hide their porn. Subjects who admitted viewing pornography with their male partners also rated themselves as happier than those whose partners who are dishonest about their porn habits.
“Female partners may find pornography to be a source of competition, in that they may not be satisfying their partners’ needs,” the report noted. “The more disclosure men provide to their female partners, the more upset women feel [when] they find out their partner is using more porn than originally expected.”
