Strongbox 5.0 Introduces FaceTuring
YNOT – A Bryan, Texas-based software developer is poised to release a new website security application that employs picture recognition to confirm a user’s identity. Called FaceTuring, the method asks users to confirm their status as a human by interacting with an image instead of deciphering a CAPTCHA scrawl.
Strongbox 5.0, the latest version of the software from betterCGI, allows web-based businesses to defend their holdings from brute-force attacks, stolen or shared passwords and other security threats, said Chief Executive Officer Ray Morris.
“Strongbox 5.0 has a lot of new features to enhance security and convenience while complimenting your site’s appearance,” he said. “With the upcoming upgrade, exclusive features like secure cross-site linking and FaceTuring will only enhance the sense of security that comes with securing your login and protecting yourself against brute force attacks, site rippers with stolen passwords and other issues that slow your site down and cost you money.”
Rather than force users to untangle the typically distorted, difficult-to-read text that composes most CAPTCHA images, FaceTuring requires users to do what humans have done instinctively for millions of years—spot a pretty face. Users simply click on the correct faces based on the instructions on their screen. Once a user has logged in successfully once, they can be exempted from future challenge-response tests at log-in. The system is especially valuable for touch-screen applications.
Version 5.0 of the software is set to debut July 1, along with a new pricing model. According to Morris, webmasters who order the new version prior to the launch date will receive the current price.
“To give webmasters great value, we’ve set aside this two-week pre-order period so that webmasters can protect their websites with the latest technology while still taking advantage of historically low pricing,” Morris said. “Orders after [June 30] will be at the new price of $189 setup and $99 per year.”
