Stormy Daniels, Senator?
NEW ORLEANS, LA — Look out, David Vitter. You may consider a porn star’s bid for your comfy U.S. Senate seat a joke, but fans of Stormy Daniels aren’t laughing.Nor is the starlet herself. Daniels, 29, recently told CNN she’s planning a “listening tour” of Louisiana, the home state she shares with the Republican infamous for some rather hypocritical views about morality.
According to DraftStormy.com, a website fans have established to gauge interest in a potential political run by the pornstress, Daniels wants to “sweep Louisiana clean of corrupt politicians once and for all…. A champion of entrepreneurism, a fighter for decency and the embodiment of pure libertarianism, Stormy Daniels will be a tireless champion for the forthright values of common sense and do-it-yourself individualism.
“2010 presents the Pelican State with the opportunity to start with a clean slate — to elect a representative that we can be proud of, who will work tirelessly, and who will challenge the status quo,” the site continues. “We at the Draft Stormy campaign feel that Baton Rouge native Stormy Daniels is best suited to fulfill these duties.”
The Draft Stormy campaign was started by New Orleans resident Zack Hudson. On the website, he lists Daniels’ three major issues as the economy, women in business and protection of children. He also presents the star as an intelligent women who’s “always up for a fight,” which she proved by serving as editor of her high-school newspaper and president of the local 4-H Club. More recently, she has directed for Wicked Pictures, appeared in mainstream films like The 40-Year-Old Virgin and won awards not only for acting, but also for directing and writing.
Vitter has held his Senate seat since 2004 and has done an admirable job of continuing Louisiana’s long and storied tradition of political corruption (most famously personified by Huey Long). In 2007, he admitted to being a client of the late Deborah Jean Palfrey, aka the D.C. Madam, after his phone number showed up in her records. In addition, various investigations and confessions have tied Vitter to longstanding relationships with New Orleans’ Canal Street Madam Jeanette Maier and admitted prostitute Wendy Cortez.
According to Clancy DuBois, political director for New Orleans’ alternative newspaper Gambit, Vitter has a campaign war chest of at least $2 million. Still, he could be vulnerable on “family values issues,” DuBois indicated.
And that’s exactly where Daniels is attacking him. She said her status as one of the adult industry’s most recognizable performers actually might work in her favor. Her campaign’s slogan, at least for the moment, is “Screwing People Honestly.”
