Steam Releases ‘Negligee: Love Stories,’ Faces Ban in 28 Countries
On Sept. 14th, the Valve’s PC game store Steam released a much-anticipated download of the hentai-type game provocatively named, Negligee: Love Stories, a four-part series of sexually explicit gaming adventures developed by Dharker Studios, Ltd. The difference in this game debut on Steam versus others in the past is this download is the first completely uncensored adult-themed PC game available on the gaming platform, and the potential for profit is infinite.
According to The Sun, a UK newswire, Negligee: Love Stories features unfiltered scenes of “outdoor sexual activity, male and female, multiple partner sexual activity, and female single partner sexual relationships,” as well as, “themes relating to pressured sexual relationships, nymphomania, adult sex workers, abusive marriages and adultery.”
The game was already approved early-on in its development, with heavy censorship of hardcore scenes, but in June of this year, Valve mended this filter by instituting an “anything goes” policy. This new policy essentially allows downloads that portray any activities, except those that are considered illegal or “straight-up trolling.”
This new approach didn’t immediately open the floodgates to XXX cartoon games, as Valve’s first order of business was to set up security filters to ensure, or at least make it difficult, for their less adult-themed tolerant users to be exposed to these explicit downloads. Filters they now have, require customers to go through a confirmation page and opt-in to adult-themed content.
This groundbreaking release now unlocks the many risqué games waiting in the wings, previously shelved due to censorship red tape. It also opens the floodgates on potential profit.
The gaming platform Nutaku has already carved out a lucrative niche in the adult gaming market with over 200 adult games offering uncensored content, including Dharker Studios selections.
According to Nutaku’s public relations and media coordinator, “We have a great relationship with the developer of Negligee: Love Stories, Dharker Studio, and we successfully host many of their uncensored games on our platform.”
The impact that Steam’s release will have on the industry, especially their platform is minimal, but they do feel, “it could bring more light to Nutaku, and for the community to recognize that we’re the best option for adult game developers looking to host their titles.”
According to an article published on Wired.com, by Joseph Bein-Kahn, “the thriving erotic-gaming industry that originated in Japan is now going global, and the adult-gaming platform Nutaku has seen an uptick of players of more than 800 percent since 2015.”
According to Bein-Kahn, that equals around “10 million registered users—40 percent of whom play daily—and 70 million monthly page views.” Hence the potential for infinite profit.
This profit paradigm may have been halted however — at least for now. According to a recent announcement on Steam’s discussion boards, Negligee: Love Stories is banned from sale in 28 counties. In the announcement, Dharker Studios stated that “potentially we could suffer fines and penalties and even legal action by those countries.” So, to err on the side of caution, the company says they will not have their game for sale in these areas.
In consideration of future unfiltered releases the company states, “none of our previous games will be patched to include adult content and future games will be developed to release a censored edition where possible.”
Nutaku also hosts Negligee: Love Stories and had this to say about the recent bans: “Steam caters to an all-ages audience, so we can see how hosting adult games can be pretty controversial for them, because we’re strictly 18+, we don’t have the same issues Steam has releasing uncensored games.”
According to Nutaku, Dharker Studios, “can rest assured that their game won’t be removed since we’re strictly 18+.”
Regarding concerns the gaming community might have of potential sale restrictions of Negligee: Love Stories, Nutaku stated, “There’s absolutely zero chance that we will pull the game from our platform, or that it will be banned from sale.”
As for the future of this relatively new and exciting genre of the adult industry, the options for gaming platforms are seemingly endless. Nutaku’s goals are to focus on bringing more high-quality titles to their platform.
“We’ve been working pretty diligently to offer more inclusive games to our community, and we want to make games for everyone, not just heterosexual men. We have some cool updates coming this Fall/Winter, offering up more options for female and LGBTQ adult gamers,” their public relations and media coordinator told YNOT.
And according to Nutaku, they also have a Desktop Client in the works that will “make our games more accessible and higher quality for our users, so players can stay tuned for that.”
They can be assured there are millions of registered users — and potential investors — tuned in to see what Nutaku and other adult themed gaming platforms release next.
