Southwest Airlines Harasses Miniskirt-Clad Passenger
SAN DIEGO, CA — College student/Hooters waitress Kyla Ebbert had to fight to keep her seat on a Southwest Airlines flight to Tucson, AZ after an airline “customer service supervisor” objected to her wardrobe choice.Ebbert was wearing a white mini-skirt, high-heeled sandals, a bra, and a tank top with a light sweater over it. It was over 100 degrees outside during her day trip two months ago, and she had a doctor’s appointment to keep when she arrived.
During the flight safety instructions, Ebbert was asked to step of the plane by “Keith,” who worked for the airline. “Keith” told her that her clothing was inappropriate for flying on Southwest Airlines and asked her to go home, change, and catch a later flight. Ebbert refused, citing her appointment, and “Keith” relented, allowing her on the flight as long as she pulled her skirt down and tank top up a little to appease his sense of modesty.
Ebbert told the local media that she found the experience “humiliating” and that once the flight landed, she called her mother and wept over the treatment.
Kyla’s mother, Michelle Ebbert received a letter from Southwest saying that the airline could remove any flier “whose clothing is lewd, obscene or patently offensive” to ensure the comfort of children and “adults with heightened sensitivities.”
“My daughter is young, tall, blonde, and beautiful, and she is both envied and complimented on her appearance. She dresses provocatively, as do 99-percent of 23-year-old girls who can. But they were out of line,” Michelle Ebbert responded.
