Certified Sexpert Dares Los Angeles to Look at their Vulvas
Los Angeles sexpert Anne Hodder-Shipp is daring women across Los Angeles to take a peek at their private parts at The Space Between, an unconventional wellness workshop held Sept. 30 at WMN Space in Culver City.
After an opening circle, some sex ed, and even a little woo-woo stuff, attendees will each get a hand mirror and some privacy so they can meet their vulvas one-on-one. It’s not required, and there’s a lot more to the workshop, but Anne says this part is where the magic happens.
“Our culture is convinced that vulvas are mysterious mechanisms in need of figuring out or fixing, that they’re complicated body parts that need constant upkeep and pricey ‘intimate care,’ but our culture is lying to us,” Anne says. “It’s a human reaction to feel afraid of something we don’t know, and most of us don’t know what’s ‘down there.’ Our culture has made this state of fear, disempowerment, and disconnect between women and their bodies the status quo, and our culture wants to keep it that way – so naturally, I want to burn it all down.”
Anne’s workshop offers women the chance to learn about their bodies in a unique environment that combines accurate sex education with the kind of on-trend healing work one might see at one of Gwenyth Paltrow’s “In goop Health” events – except attendees don’t have to pay $400 to do it.
“The female body has historically been shrouded in shame, secrecy, and misinformation and, frankly, women are f*cking tired and ready for a change,” Anne says. “The Space Between is open to female-identifying folks who want to recognize and release any fear or shame they might feel about their vulvas in a safe and controlled space. Take a quick peek, a lingering gaze, or skip this part entirely – attendees get to shape the experience for themselves and I’ll be there to support them whole way.”
The workshop schedule and more details can be found at online. Tickets are on sale now for $55 and scholarship opportunities are available to those in need.
