Sex-positive Union: Good Vibrations Acquires Babeland
SAN FRANCISCO and NEW YORK – Good Vibrations, founded in San Francisco 40 years ago and one of the first shops to create an environment catering to women, has sealed an agreement to acquire Babeland, a similar pleasure products retailer on the opposite coast. Financial details about the transaction were not disclosed.
With nine stores in five cities, plus an online store at GoodVibes.com, Good Vibrations will assume Babeland’s three stores in New York City, a flagship store in Seattle and the online store Babeland.com. With similar education programs and curated product selections, along with reputations for friendly and knowledgeable customer service, the two brands are well positioned for a smooth transition and future success, according to a spokesperson for Good Vibrations.
“It’s been a joy and an adventure to start and grow Babeland,” said Rachel Venning, who with her partner Claire Cavanah founded Babeland 25 years ago as an affirming, feminist lifestyle brand. “I have enormous gratitude for all the customers, staff and community that have been part of this. I’m ready for a new adventure. Having Good Vibrations take over makes it easier to let go, because we share so many of the same feminist values.”
Good Vibrations and Babeland have been involved in their communities while remaining dedicated to providing quality products and trusted information in a non-judgmental atmosphere. Both are devoted to helping customers celebrate their authentic sexual self and welcome all genders and orientations.
“Promoting sexual health and pleasure has been at the core of Good Vibrations and Babeland for decades,” said Jackie Rednour-Bruckman, executive vice president for Good Vibrations. “This acquisition represents a powerful synergy where both brands can grow successfully and fulfill the founders’ visions of a more sex-positive world.”
Both brands will remain intact and continue to serve their respective communities and locations while combined efficiencies will help both brands grow successfully and create a larger retail imprint.
The closing, which is subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to take place in early August.
