Senior Moment: Colbert Takes on Cummings
YNOT – In early March, the adult entertainment world got another mainstream bump when political satirist Stephen Colbert took on one of the most pressing issues of our time: geriatric porn stars.
Called “Senior Moment” the March 1 segment during Comedy Central’s mock-newsy The Colbert Report celebrated septuagenarian Dave Cummings’ career, especially his recent induction into the X-Rated Critics Organization’s Hall of Fame Class of 2011.
After serving 25 years in the U.S. Army and retiring as a lieutenant colonel, Cummings began his adult film career at nearly 55 and has appeared in 500 titles to date.
“I find the adult entertainment world to be a very rewarding one, filled with caring people who fully realize that sex is a totally natural, God-given gift to be enjoyed,” Cummings told YNOT.com. “I like helping people understand that it’s normal for them to have sexual cravings and to enjoy harmless fantasies and healthy desires.”
And how did he feel about being singled out for special attention by the self-described “America’s ballsiest pundit?”
“I enjoyed watching [the segment], simultaneously as one of the subjects of the report and as a viewer enjoying fun entertainment,” Cummings told YNOT.com.
Although no doubt the segment tickled and titillated any number of mainstream Colbert fans, Cummings said he hasn’t let the attention go to either of his heads.
“I’m still just an old fogey who is genetically fortunate to be enjoying a very satisfying sex life,” he told YNOT.com.
However, “The Colbert Report piece reinforces for older adults my personal mantra that ‘sex between and among consenting adults, or with oneself, is a God-given gift that is natural, normal, and healthy.’ And by healthy, I mean not only sexually and emotionally, but also physically. A sexual climax can relieve physical stress, provide focus, make one more attentive and increase productivity.”
