Saudi Television Sex Confessor Arrested
JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA — Mazen Abdul Jawad lost his inhibitions and possibly his sense of self preservation when he went on Saudi television to discuss his non-marital sex life, complete with vibrators and lubricant. Now the 32-year-old man may lose his head. Literally. Abdul Jawad appeared on the program Ahmar Bilkhat al-Freed (Wide Red Lines) last month and spoke with unusual frankness about his methods for cruising and scoring with the local women with the help of his sports car and mobile phone’s Bluetooth earpiece.
After the show aired, many expressed their outrage at his choice of subject matter, demanding that he be punished.
Thanks to more than 200 complains from Saudi viewers and in spite of a public apology, Abdul Jawad was detained in his Red Sea port city apartment this past weekend before being fingerprinted and taken into custody by criminal investigators for “publicizing vice.”
The divorced father of four, who spoke of his first sexual experience with a neighbor at the age of 14 apologized after the show aired, insisting that producers had tricked him into sharing some of his personal secrets.
According to media reports, a police representative in Jeddah stated that Abdul Jawad’s televised appearance violated Saudi Arabia’s sharia legal code and Saudi customs.
