Red Light Sues Over Alleged Counterfeit Paris Hilton DVDs
CHATSWORTH, CA – World Wide Red Light District, the exclusive owners of the popular adult DVD 1 Night in Paris, have filed a lawsuit in the U.S. Federal District Court, Central District of California, against Woodland Hills One Hour Photo. The lawsuit alleges that the defendant created and sold counterfeit copies of the popular Paris Hilton DVD, and it seeks $3 million in damages.“Because of its intense interest and popularity, 1 Night in Paris has been widely counterfeited,” said David Joseph, Owner of Red Light District. “Red Light District has put an aggressive copyright and anti-counterfeit campaign in place in an effort to pursue these infringers. We have also posted a reward on our Web site.”
“Red Light District owns the copyrights to 1 Night in Paris and has the legal right to enforce them,” said Greg Piccionelli, attorney for Red Light District and co-founder of the intellectual property and internet law firm Piccionelli & Sarno. “This is the first of many actions we anticipate taking to protect the copyrights of Red Light District.”
“We’re about to file a number of other lawsuits,” Piccionelli added, “and we are offering rewards to people who identify copyright infringers.”
According to AVN, 1 Night in Paris ranks amongst the best-selling adult videos of all times. The video includes footage from a home movie made by Hilton’s then boyfriend Rick Solomon, and was sold last year by Solomon apparently against the wishes of Hilton. Hilton’s high profile as a model and actress, added to the notorious status of the video itself, has helped fuel sales and profits for Red Light.
