PV Developer Contest Winds Down; Pron Party Heats Up
YNOT – The deadline for submission of entries to Pink Visual’s API Developer Contest is fast approaching. Mainstream and adult industry developers have until Dec. 23 to submit their creations.
“We’ve received some outstanding submissions so far, and there’s still time to get your apps and sites submitted for approval before the contest closes,” said Pink Visual Marketing Director Lea Busick. “Of course, whether you submit the winning app or not, the products and properties you create using PV API have money-making potential as tools for promoting Pink Visual, so even if they can’t meet the deadline for the contest, we encourage developers to continue submitting new apps well beyond Dec. 23.”
Despite the participation of experienced mainstream developers, two of the best submissions to date have come from adult industry veterans, Busick said.
Christopher O’Connell of Saguaro Digital created a utility that allows easy integration of PV API and WordPress, enabling non-programmers to make use of the API, too.
“Christopher realized that while it is very useful to programmers, our API was going to be a real challenge for bloggers who don’t have much programming knowledge,” Busick said. “So, he stepped to the plate with something that opens up the API to a whole new universe of webmasters, which is exactly the sort of innovative thinking we were hoping to see from PV API developers.”
For his part, O’Connell said it was nice to see an adult company offer developers the opportunity to work directly with its content and data. The practice is far more common in the mainstream tech sector, he noted.
“It has been a pleasure working with a tech-forward company like Pink Visual, and I have been thrilled to be one of the launch developers for the Pink Visual API,” O’Connell said. “The PVAPI brings the same kind of interactivity and integration to Pink Visual as has long been enjoyed by developers on mainstream tech platforms like Yahoo, Facebook and Twitter.”

Another Chris, better known to most adult industry forum users as TheDoc, created a free video site using PV API. The site displays content from a wide array of categories and Pink Visual video lines, taking full advantage of the API’s flexibility and the wealth of content and data it offers. TheDoc’s handiwork may be seen at XXXGalore.com.
“TheDoc’s site and Christopher’s utility are radically different from each other, obviously, which just goes to show the scope of the possibilities presented to developers through PV API,” Busick said. “We’ve just begun to scratch the surface here, and we look forward to more great submissions in the weeks ahead.”
The winner of the PV API Developer Contest will be flown to Las Vegas for Pink Visual’s “Pron Party,” set to take place from 4-7 p.m. Jan. 10 at the V Bar inside The Venetian in Las Vegas. Alternatively, the winner may opt for a $2,500 cash prize.
Busick said the Pron Party will be the erotic event of the January trade show season … even though what traditionally has been the biggest show of the year moved its 2012 event to a different date and venue. For the first time ever, AVN’s Adult Entertainment Expo will take place at the off-Strip Hard Rock Hotel & Casino after, not concurrently with, the Consumer Electronics Show. Busick said the Pron Party was designed in part to cheer up disappointed CES attendees.
“The Pron Party promises to be an evening filled with free cocktails, tasty snacks, porn star appearances and plenty of free swag,” Busick promised, adding that VIP tickets already are in the mail for select guests.
Co-sponsored by AEBN RealTouch, a haptic device that combines patented technology with specially programmed adult videos to create a web-based virtual sex experience, the Pron Party is all about the convergence of technology and pornography.
“We’re a very technology-focused company, as is AEBN, clearly,” Busick said. “The convergence theme just seemed like an obvious choice for us, and it’s a theme that resonates with tech-savvy porn fans in a big way.”
During the party, Pink Visual will display some of its latest developments, including its cloud-based content distribution platform, PVLocker. The evening won’t be all gadgets, bells and whistles, however.
“We’re bringing in three lovely, highly personable young ladies who are immensely popular with fans right now — Alexis Texas, Lexi Belle and Kirsten Price — just to make sure that the geeks in attendance don’t spend the whole evening with their eyes glued to a screen,” quipped Busick. “After all, how much fun is it to flirt with an iPad?”
