Products Pass Materials Verification Phase 2
LOS ANGELES – The Screaming O has completed Phase 2 of its product materials verification campaign, which includes independent testing of silicone and ABS plastic. Using the services of Polymer Solutions, the new materials underwent a three-step testing process customized to determine material authenticity, non-toxicity and body-safety. A company spokesperson said both the silicone and ABS plastic passed all three tests.
Phase 2 began in April, when The Screaming O contracted Erika Batchelder, lab manager for the independent analyst. Batchelder specializes in testing the effects of a variety of potentially hazardous chemicals and compounds on cells’ normal functions. Using human cells grown in culture in a high-throughput manner, her work helps clients determine the toxicity of chemicals and compounds within a specific human cellular function.
“We stand by the production of our product line and choose to utilize particular materials in order to provide quality alternatives to higher-priced ‘luxury’ items on the market,” The Screaming O Account Executive Conde Aumann said. “Consumer trust is a key component to the success of a sex toy brand, and rather than rely on hearsay and scare-tactics, The Screaming O makes important marketing and development decisions based on evidence and experience.
“Our SEBS, ABS plastic and colorful silicone are core to the look and feel of our entire collection, and we only use materials that are proven and verified to be body-safe,” she continued. “It’s a commitment we take very seriously.”
The Screaming O worked directly with Polymer Solutions in December 2014 to customize a testing process that most closely follows protocols required by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. The company also uses the three-point process to determine the safety and quality of all materials used in the production of its newest and most popular products.
“Responsible manufacturing, clear and correct labeling, and accurate consumer education are three pillars to running a sex toy company that’s deserving of consumers’ trust,” Aumann said. “However each company wants to define or handle that is their own prerogative, of course, but we at The Screaming O are proud to be setting a new industry standard.”
The Screaming O uses a universal labeling system featuring icons that quickly and clearly inform shoppers about each products component materials. The Screaming O also encourages retailers to adjust their own marketing copy to ensure their descriptions accurately represent the brand’s products to the shopping public.
ABS is used as a structural component in most of The Screaming O’s mini vibes and handhelds, including the company’s range of single-speed and multifunction bullets. Th new silicone is used in many of The Screaming O’s newest debuts, including the OVibe, PoPVibe and OBob handheld massagers to give consumers body-safe and affordable alternatives to higher-priced brands.
