Private Classics: Vintage Sex and Fetish
YNOT – With the launch of Private magazine in 1965, Stockholm-based photographer Berth Milton Sr. founded what would become one of the world’s largest libraries of full-color premium hardcore content. Since then, Private Media Group has become a worldwide brand, producing and distributing porn on a multitude of platforms including DVD, internet, mobile and broadcast TV.
For many fans, Milton’s inventive adult content holds a special place in the porn pantheon. Hugh Hefner’s Playboy, founded more than a decade earlier, presented sex through the lens of glamour, adding a polish to which Milton’s hedonistic Private never aspired. Instead, Milton delved beneath the superficial by empowering his models to reveal voracious sexual beings who shared the appetites of the men with whom they were depicted in flagrante delicto.
In conjunction with the publication of The Private Collection 1980-1989, a new Taschen book that complements the publisher’s previous similar volume documenting Private’s 1970s content, PMG has released its vault of images from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s online at PrivateClassics.com.
PrivateClassics.com offers 96 vintage issues of Private magazine, each containing four or five hardcore photosets that may be viewed online or downloaded as PDFs and jpegs. The collection is categorized by decade, and a special section on the site allows members access to other magazines published by PMG as well, including Sex, Triple X and the fetish periodical Pirate. Monthly membership provides access via PC, Mac and mobile devices.
Taschen’s Private Collection books are available in two boxed volumes containing five 192-page hardback books, each featuring seven to 10 photosets arranged in chronological order. Some of the sets have never been published before. Additional materials includes behind-the-scenes photos of Berth Milton Sr. at work. Vintage art, advertisements and editorials complete the insider’s look at the golden age of pornography as interpreted by Sweden’s most notorious publisher-photographer. The Private/Taschen books are available on Amazon.com and in bookstores.
