So when I was invited to cover the official launch of PornStar Académie 2, I jumped all over it like the proverbial fat kid on a smartie.

What could be better than attending the launch party of a SEX reality show, on a Friday night at a downtown studio loft, where a dozen young, gorgeous pornstar wannabes would all be vying for the camera’s attention and competing to be the hottest up-and-coming stars in adult film? Sure enough, I was not disappointed. The ambitious French competitors lived up to the standard set by last year’s inaugural and highly successful PornStar Académie series.

It’s not misspelled, it’s French!

PornStar Académie was created in 2003 by Sébastien Lagacé and Carl Fugere, two French dudes from Canada. The series is filmed in Montreal, Quebec and its name is a word play on the popular “Star Académie” which was Quebec’s French version of the American (and Canadian) Idol shows. The PornStar Académie model is based on a similar voter-result elimination system as the Idol shows: that is, each week the two pornstar wannabes with the least amount of votes gets booted off the show.

PSA also borrowed elements from the Big Brother reality show model: For six weeks, the twelve young, horny pornstar wannabes will be living together in camera-rigged studio/loft. They’ll be competing in challenges every weekend, forming friendships and bonds and rivalries, all the while being schooled in the finer points of cunnilingus, anal sex, fellatio and double penetration by highly skilled and qualified instructors, including Montreal legend Tangerine Dream, and Vanessa Gold, winner of PornStar Académie’s first season.

Giving new euphemistic meaning to “friendly international relations,” this second season of PornStar Académie also features young, willing recruits from Europe, the result of collaborative efforts between organizers in Quebec and France.

Hardcore school

Each weekend the pornstar students are going to be faced with the challenges of the curriculum they’ve undertaken to study at pornstar school. For the next five weeks, the pornstars are going to be learning their lessons and performing their various tasks Friday through Sunday, striving to seduce internet and cable viewers into voting for them.

The academy’s schedule is intense and the instructors have special classes planned for their students. Faced with the threat of weekly elimination from the series, needless to say these pornstars are motivated to perform to the best of their ability.

Every week, four of the pornstars are put on the chopping block: the two men and two women with the least amount of general votes. But it’s the members of the PSA2 site who actually get to decide which pornstar wannabes ultimately won’t be pornstars. Of the four targets, the two with the least amount of member votes are the ones who get the boot. The other two remain in the game, with another chance at proving themselves.

Sometimes it’s really good to be French and live in Montreal

I have good reasons to follow PornStar Academy’s development: If simple curiosity isn’t enough, I could always chalk it up to having to do “field research” for my articles. Besides, I need to practice my French. Competition between the candidates should be intense; French Canadian girls have their reputation to uphold. (Just ask any upstate New Yorker about his frequent border crossings to Montreal, if you don’t know what I’m talking about.) Not to mention, the pornstar academy guys are hot, gorgeous and ambitious too.

But, personally, I have an even better reason to watch this particular series unfold. Not only is it happening in my own backyard (well, almost!) but this second season of PSA is being filmed under the skilled hand of my friend, Mike, better known in the adult community as Vid Vicious. With nearly 15 years of professional film and broadcast experience under his belt, his creative eye and skillful camera work promise to make this second season at the Academy a spectacular one.

One down, five more to go

Already, the first weekend at the academy is done and based on the tallied votes, the four candidates that were selected for the hot seat and possible elimination are: two girls from France, Ophélie Rose (22 yrs old), Lydia St-Martin (27), and two guys from Quebec, Archie (25) and Baby Joker (27). They will be expected to face certain challenges put to them by the judges and instructors.

Friday’s 3 hour show will be broadcast live in RealPlayer from the PSA2 site, www.eroscite.com. The first half hour (6pm-6:30pm) will reveal the final voter results and the names of the two pornstar wannabes whose ambitions will be thwarted.

The rest of the broadcast is for members only. Elections will be held between the pornstar students for the week’s king and queen. I know where I’ll be Friday evening.

But…it’s in French!

Yes, it’s in French. (Since when has language been a barrier for porn?) But even if YOU don’t speak French, it’s a good bet some of your un-monetized international traffic does.
