Porn Hacker Defeats City Council Candidate’s Facebook Page
JERSEY CITY, NJ — Nidia Lopez is hoping that she doesn’t lose her bid for a position on Jersey City Ward C’s City Council as easily as she lost control of her Facebook page, because that could be more than just a little embarrassing – and the last thing she needs right now is more embarrassment. Last weekend the political hopeful’s Facebook account unexpectedly became the temporary delivery point for a series of porn video links directed at Lopez’ supporters. Fortunately, from a statistical point anyway, the City Council contender only had about 74 people subscribed to her page at the time.
“I’m very upset about it,” The Jersey Journal reports Lopez as admitting about the virtual break-in.
When asked if the hacker might have been someone running against her for the City Council position she admitted ignorance but followed up by saying “if it is; shame on them.”
With the X-rated links being sent at least twice early on Saturday morning, Lopez confesses that “It saddens me that this would be the way that people think. Hey, they’re running scared, I guess.”
In an attempt to assure her supporters that the links do not represent Lopez’ stand on any particular issue, including sex, her Facebook account now includes a note of warning accusing her opposition of employing dirty tricks.
The note warns that visitors should “Please be advised that Ms. Lopez’s facebook page was hacked and the videos that you might have received from her facebook page were not sent out by Nidia R. Lopez nor her campaign… We apologize for these unfortunate circumstances and we are confident that this matter will be corrected very soon. It has become obvious that Nidia’s opposition for the City Council has become desperately worried that Nidia’s message fro change and her candidacy has become a serious threat to their efforts. Unfortunately, they will stop at nothing to deter her. … Ms. Lopez’s opponents unfortunately want to resort to immature pranks and a smear campaign because they do not possess a platform nor solutions to address the issues facing the Journal Square residents. … please call your family and friends to let them know that our opponents have become desperate and that our commitment to delivering change we can see is strengthened with these types of attacks.”
Apparently Lopez is unaware of the fact that one doesn’t have to be a political candidate or even be politically motivated in order to be sleazy, invasive or underhanded. One merely needs the opportunity, which politics all too often provides.
